What causes lower abdominal pain during pregnancy?

Lower abdominal pain before pregnancy can be physiological or pathological. If you experience lower abdominal pain in early pregnancy, first consider whether it is a pregnancy complication, such as ectopic pregnancy and threatened abortion, and you should go to the hospital for medical treatment in time. If it is the second trimester, the uterus enlarges and the uterine ligaments are stretched, causing abdominal pain. The pain is relatively mild and there are no other symptoms. Pregnant women do not need to worry and should pay more attention to rest. If the abdominal pain is accompanied by symptoms such as chest tightness and shortness of breath, it may be caused by gastrointestinal diseases and should be treated promptly. If severe abdominal pain occurs in the late pregnancy, accompanied by vaginal bleeding and amniotic fluid, it may be a sign of miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy or premature birth. You should be sent to a gynecological hospital for treatment without delay.

1. Early pregnancy reaction after a woman becomes pregnant. Early pregnancy symptoms include abdominal pain, which usually occurs in the early stages of pregnancy and is not very severe and does not last long. Many times it is accompanied by vomiting, which is a normal manifestation of early pregnancy reaction. So don't panic too much, unless it is severe vomiting, you need to go to the hospital for timely treatment.

2. Abdominal pain caused by rapid growth of the uterus. The enlarged uterus causes pressure pain, which usually occurs in the lower abdomen during the 3rd to 4th month of pregnancy. During this period, the uterus grows relatively quickly, and the organs around the uterus are squeezed, causing lower abdominal pain.

3. Pain in the round ligament of the uterus. It manifests as persistent dull pain in the lower abdomen without any cause during the 5th to 6th month of pregnancy. At this time, the uterus grows fastest, and the round ligaments supporting the uterus also stretch, lengthen, and increase in tension. The uterine wall where the round ligament is attached is pulled, causing pain.

Many pregnant women usually experience lower abdominal pain during pregnancy. Don’t be nervous. First observe whether it is physiological or pathological. Pay attention to eating light and nutritious food, exercising appropriately, and avoiding constipation. If it is physiological, you should rest in bed, preferably on the left side. You can also elevate your feet to relieve pain. If you feel severe abdominal pain or cramping, you should go to the hospital immediately.
