Methylparaben, milky white crystalline powder or colorless crystals, soluble in alcohol, ether and toluene, especially less soluble in water, melting point 270-280℃. Chemical formula C8H8O3. Relative molecular mass: 152.15. It is mainly used as a disinfectant and preservative in the chemical, food, cosmetic and pharmaceutical industries, and also as a feed additive. So, can pregnant women use skin care products containing methylparaben?

Some of the ingredients in skin care products may not be fully labeled. Don't lose sight of the big picture for a small one. Main uses of methylparaben: It has broad-spectrum antibacterial properties and can inhibit Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria. It has a strong inhibitory effect on yeast and mold. Compared with traditional anticorrosive products (such as sodium benzoate), it has low application concentration, broad-spectrum high efficiency, safety and economical, and long effective period. It is widely used in the corrosion prevention of cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, food and other industrial products. This product can be used independently or mixed with other parabens to achieve better anti-corrosion effect. It can be combined with various ingredients found in skin care products.

Production method of methylparaben: obtained by the esterification reaction of p-toluic acid and ethanol. Add excess ethanol to dissolve p-toluic acid, and slowly add sulfuric acid while stirring. After heating and reflux for 10 hours, pour into water to dissolve the crystals, wash with water, wash with sodium carbonate solution, and wash with water to obtain a crude product. The finished product is obtained by recrystallization with tap water or 25% alcohol. The yield rate is 85%. Raw material consumption (kg/t): p-toluic acid 1200, ethanol 1000.
