Why do breasts get bigger during menstruation?

Some women don’t know that their breasts will become larger during menstruation. So don’t worry too much when this symptom occurs, because there are many reasons for this symptom. You must first know what is going on before you can treat it in time. So what is going on when breasts get bigger during menstruation? Let's take a look:

It is normal for breasts to become larger before menstruation. Don't worry too much. It is usually caused by the secretion of estrogen before menstruation. During this period, the estrogen level increases, and breast hyperplasia and edema of the inter-mammary tissue can also make the breasts feel larger. These changes will gradually disappear after the menstruation ends. It is a normal physiological phenomenon. In addition, women's bodies are relatively weak during menstruation. It is recommended that you pay attention to rest during this period, do not stay up late, and be careful not to eat raw, cold, spicy and irritating foods, and try to eat light foods.

The breasts may also become larger during menstruation, which is also a change affected by hormones.

Before menstruation, you may feel breast pain and sometimes even feel a painful lump. This is because the breast glands, like the endometrium, will undergo changes in the premenstrual proliferation phase and postmenstrual recovery phase as the menstrual cycle changes. The premenstrual proliferative period is 7-10 days before menstruation. At this time, due to the increase in androgen and progesterone concentrations, hyperfunction of antidiuretic hormone, and increased aldosterone secretion, the mammary ducts dilate, the epithelial cells proliferate and hypertrophy, and the matrix around the mammary ducts edema, causing compression symptoms and pain. At the same time, the immature fibers of the breast increase, lymphocytes infiltrate, and the breasts enlarge, and you will feel distension, pain and discomfort. The menstrual recovery period refers to the period after the onset of menstruation, when the secretion of estrogen, progesterone and antidiuretic hormone in the body decreases, the milk ducts become smaller, the epithelial cells atrophy, the immature breast fibers decrease, and the symptoms of breast tenderness disappear.

Therefore, it is very common for breasts to become larger during menstruation, which can be physiological or pathological.

If you start to experience this symptom during your menstruation, you should pay attention to it. If the disease is physiological, it is fine. But if it is pathological, you should check it out in time and treat it symptomatically. Pathological conditions may indicate mastitis or a sign of disease. If any abnormality is found, you should check it out and treat it symptomatically.
