Surgical resection for uterine prolapse?

The uterus is one of the important organs of women. If it is not properly cared for, serious problems may occur whether the woman is not pregnant or has given birth. Uterine prolapse is also called uterine ptosis, which means that the uterus descends or prolapses along the vagina from its normal position. When the external opening of the cervix reaches below the level of the ischial spine, the uterus may even completely protrude out of the vaginal opening. So what is the surgical treatment for uterine prolapse?

For a patient, the specific treatment depends on the severity of uterine prolapse and the patient's physical condition. Take appropriate measures according to the cause of the patient's uterine prolapse. We will mainly introduce the surgical treatment below.

Surgical treatment is a commonly used treatment for uterine prolapse, and surgery should be performed for prolapse of grade II or above. The most commonly used method is to remove the uterus from the vagina and repair the anterior and posterior walls of the vagina. It is also the best surgery for treating uterine prolapse, and the disease rarely recurs after the operation. It is more suitable for women in menopause or postmenopause. Young women who wish to have another child and who have a long cervix can undergo the Mann procedure, which does not cut the uterine body but only a part of the cervix. At the same time, the ligaments around the uterus are reinforced and the anterior and posterior walls of the vagina are repaired. Because the uterus is left behind, there is a possibility of recurrence of the disease after the operation.

For patients with mild uterine prolapse but more significant bladder and rectal prolapse, only the anterior and posterior vaginal wall repair can be performed. However, the disease is prone to recurrence after surgery. In some cases, vaginal atresia can be performed, which is to simply sew the vagina closed to prevent the uterus from prolapse. You cannot have sexual intercourse after the operation. And there are many other drawbacks. It is only used for very few elderly women who have severe uterine prolapse but cannot undergo major surgery.

The effect of surgical treatment for uterine prolapse is obvious. In fact, in addition to surgical treatment, there is also drug treatment. So how to choose the treatment method is determined according to the grade of uterine prolapse and the patient's own condition. Generally, those with severe symptoms who can tolerate surgery will choose surgery, and patients are also easy to accept.
