Is colposcopy painful?

The physical health of each of us is very important. Physical health determines everything. Especially for our female friends, in addition to physical examinations, they should also regularly undergo gynecological disease examinations. Only in this way can we ensure our physical health. Sometimes we will go for a colposcopy. Does a colposcopy hurt?

Will a colposcopy be painful? In order to understand the severity and extent of cervical lesions, doctors sometimes use different solutions to apply on the cervix to facilitate interpretation. When applied, the patient will feel a slight cooling sensation, which is not painful. Colposcopy, commonly known as a vaginal speculum, is a procedure that stretches the vagina to reveal the cervix. Next, the doctor will use the colposcope's lens to magnify the condition of the cervix.

1) Before the examination, the results of vaginal cell smear examination should be available to exclude inflammation such as vaginal Trichomonas, Candida, and Gonorrhea. Avoid vaginal douching, bimanual examination and sexual intercourse 24 hours before the examination. 2) The patient takes the bladder cut-off position, uses a vaginal speculum to fully expose the cervical vagina, and gently wipes off the cervical secretions with a cotton ball. To avoid bleeding, do not rub hard. By staining the cells, the morphological changes as well as the changes in the cytoplasm and nucleus of the cells can be observed under a microscope, thereby determining the degree of pathological changes in the cells and making an accurate judgment on the nature of the cells, but it cannot make a localized diagnosis of the lesions.

Colposcopy is a very simple examination, which is no different from a regular gynecological examination. The doctor uses a vaginal speculum, commonly known as a duckbill, to open the vagina to expose the cervix. Next, the examining physician will use the colposcope’s lens to magnify the condition of the cervix. The examination is not painful.

With the progress and development of modern science and technology, after the above understanding, we know that our female friends will not feel pain when doing colposcopy. As long as we follow the doctor's advice and follow the rules of the examination, we will not cause ourselves great pain and harm. We must prepare according to the doctor's advice before the examination.
