What to do if you have pain in your left lower abdomen during menstruation

We know that not only is menstruation a very common physiological symptom, but dysmenorrhea is also a disease that is very easy to occur. Not having dysmenorrhea this time does not mean you won’t have dysmenorrhea next time. Moreover, patients with dysmenorrhea often suffer from recurring symptoms. Even if you have endometriosis, it is a more painful problem each time. So what should you do if you have pain in the left lower abdomen during menstruation?

The causes of dysmenorrhea include primary and secondary. Primary means that there is no lesion in the reproductive organs. It is more common in young girls and unmarried women without children, and it usually decreases or disappears after childbirth. Secondary dysmenorrhea refers to dysmenorrhea caused by endometriosis, inflammation of the reproductive system, adhesions, etc. Those with mild dysmenorrhea symptoms do not need treatment, while those with severe symptoms require the use of analgesics, beta-receptor stimulants, endocrine therapy, etc.

How to quickly solve dysmenorrhea:

1. Avoid cold: During menstruation, do not touch cold water, sit or lie on wet ground, and do not swim, so as to prevent bacteria from invading the vagina and causing infection.

2. Pay attention to personal hygiene: use a shower to keep the vulva clean. You can wash the vulva with warm water every night; use clean and disinfected menstrual belts and menstrual paper; sexual intercourse is strictly prohibited during menstruation.

3. Avoid caffeine: The caffeine contained in coffee, tea, cola and chocolate makes you nervous and may cause discomfort during menstruation. Therefore, caffeine should be avoided. In addition, the oils contained in coffee may also irritate the small intestine.

4. Supplement minerals: Calcium, potassium and magnesium minerals can also help relieve menstrual pain. Experts have found that women who take calcium have less menstrual pain than those who do not. Magnesium is also important because it helps the body absorb calcium efficiently. You may want to increase your calcium and magnesium intake before and during your period.

To sum up, if you have abdominal pain during menstruation, it is most likely a symptom of dysmenorrhea. At this time, you should not take any medicine randomly and pay attention to your diet. It is recommended that for the sake of health, patients should not eat cold food before and during menstruation.
