What causes vaginal dryness and painful intercourse?

However, some women find that their vagina is dry and painful during sexual intercourse. What is going on?

Dyspareunia refers to the feeling of discomfort or even pain during sexual intercourse rather than pleasure. The pain may occur shortly after marriage, or much later, or even during menopause. The pain sometimes occurs only in the vulva, sometimes inside the vagina, and sometimes affects the abdomen, waist, and back. Dyspareunia can occur during or after sexual intercourse, or even last for hours or days after intercourse. There are many causes of pain during sexual intercourse, including diseases of the reproductive organs and urinary system, congenital malformations, etc. Typical lesions are endometriotic nodules on the uterosacral ligament close to the posterior fornix of the vagina, pelvic inflammation and peritoneal organ adhesions. When the penis is inserted and touches the nodules, the friction with the vaginal mucosa causes the peritoneum to shake and pull the organs, causing pain. In addition, specific vaginal allergies, such as allergies caused by the use of contraceptive tools, can also cause pain.

The first intercourse after marriage will tear the hymen and expand the vaginal opening, which may also cause pain and slight difficulty in intercourse in the first few days. The mental excitement of a newlywed couple and the busyness and fatigue that comes with it can also make intercourse incompletely satisfactory. Therefore, it usually takes 3 to 4 weeks after the marriage to achieve satisfactory intercourse.

Hasty intercourse, that is, before the woman's sexual excitement is fully aroused, the vagina lacks expansion and lubrication. Inserting the penis at this time, or inserting it with a slightly violent movement, often causes temporary pain, and sexual excitement will be suppressed. As the penis thrusts and rubs, the pain may increase, especially in the highly sensitive clitoris area. It has rich blood vessels and nerve tissue, and in the absence of sexual excitement and dryness, it will not only cause pain, but also produce an unbearable feeling of disgust psychologically.

In the absence of organic lesions, pain during sexual intercourse is mainly caused by insufficient vaginal lubrication. There are two main reasons for insufficient sexual arousal: first, insufficient preparation for intercourse, that is, insufficient flirting actions such as hugging, kissing, and caressing; second, there is intercourse anxiety, fear, lack of concentration, and depression and unhappiness caused by work and life.
