What causes increased menstrual flow?

Menstruation is a physiological cycle every month for normal women. Only by ensuring normal menstruation can we avoid the occurrence of some gynecological diseases. Many women always have irregular menstruation, or more or less menstrual flow. However, these symptoms are caused by some gynecological diseases. However, due to the negligence of many women, the disease always becomes particularly serious, and sometimes even affects fertility. So what is the reason for increased menstrual flow? Let's find out together below.

What causes increased menstrual flow?

1. Due to excessive secretion of ovarian estrogen, long-term stimulation of the endometrium causes it to proliferate beyond the normal thickness, resulting in increased bleeding during shedding, such as anovulatory functional uterine bleeding.

2. Excessive menstrual flow in women may be caused by uterine fibroids. Endometrial bleeding is the main symptom of uterine fibroids, but in the vast majority of patients, endometrial bleeding often manifests as periodic increased menstrual bleeding and irregular menstruation. If your menstruation suddenly becomes irregular, or if one of the following situations occurs, you should be alert: heavy menstruation, cyclical bleeding, often accompanied by prolonged menstruation; shortened menstrual cycle, heavy menstrual flow; irregular bleeding, menstruation loses its normal periodicity, the menstrual flow is sometimes more and sometimes less, and it is continuous and lasts for a long time.

3. Inflammation of the reproductive organs. If there is heavy vaginal bleeding accompanied by lower abdominal or lower back pain, increased vaginal discharge, abnormal color or odor, fever, and frequent and painful urination, you should consider a reproductive organ infection.

4. Cervical hypertrophy. Cervical hypertrophy is a type of chronic cervicitis. The main symptoms include heavy menstruation, purulent leucorrhea, dysmenorrhea, pain in the lower abdomen and lumbosacral region, or frequent urination, urgency, pain when urinating, and bleeding during sexual intercourse. Severe cases can cause endometritis, salpingo-oophoritis, and fallopian tube adhesions, leading to infertility and increasing the risk of cervical cancer.

5. Blood disease. Such as: leukemia, aplastic anemia, thrombocytopenic purpura, pernicious anemia, etc. Because menstruation, like other bleeding phenomena in the human body, is regulated by the body's own coagulation system. If there is an abnormality in the coagulation system, for example, in hemophilia patients who are born with a lack of a certain coagulation factor, the blood will not coagulate easily, resulting in heavy menstrual flow and prolonged bleeding. If you have been experiencing heavy periods for a long time and a gynecologist cannot find any cause, you should consider undergoing a detailed blood test to see if you have a blood disease.

The above is an introduction to what causes increased menstrual volume. After understanding it, we know that there are many reasons for this phenomenon. Therefore, female friends should not take medication blindly when such symptoms occur. They must find the cause and prescribe the right medicine. Only in this way can the disease be better treated. In addition, you should pay more attention to nutritional balance in your daily diet and eat some light foods.
