Why doesn't the baby sleep during the confinement period?

Mothers who have just given birth are in relatively weak physical condition, so they need to rest well. It usually takes a month for them to resume normal life and work. However, because they have to take care of the children, mothers are also very tired. What’s more important is that the baby may not sleep. So why don’t babies sleep during the confinement period?

1. Hunger and wet diapers: Young parents often sleep too deeply at night and are difficult to wake up due to excessive fatigue during the day. When a baby is hungry at night or has a wet diaper, he or she will often wake up the mother by crying loudly. Over time, this will become a conditioned reflex, leading to night crying disorder. If it is caused by hunger, the baby will often suck in the intervals between crying, and the crying will stop as long as they are fed. If it is caused by wet diapers or uncomfortable body position, the crying will stop when the conditions improve.

2. Rickets: Due to the lack of vitamin D, calcium and phosphorus metabolism is disordered and blood calcium is reduced, which is medically known as hypocalcemia. Because low blood calcium puts the nervous system in an excited state, the child may show mild symptoms such as irritability, crying, being annoying, and being frightened, or even have convulsions in severe cases. Once you find that your child has these symptoms, you should take the child to the hospital to check whether he or she has the disease. If the diagnosis is clear, you should start treatment in time, give intramuscular injections of vitamin D3, and take calcium supplements at the same time. Children should be exposed to the sun more often, because ultraviolet rays can make the skin automatically produce vitamin D.

3. Reduce the time your baby sleeps during the day. You can play with the baby, or put the baby in a well-lit place to make it difficult for him to fall asleep; wake up the baby once every two hours of sleep, and don't rush to feed him after he wakes up, but play with him for half an hour first. When the baby wakes up during the day, he may cry and make a fuss, or fall asleep again in a blink of an eye. Therefore, you must not let his visual and auditory organs idle after he wakes up. You can play him some light-tempo music, shake a rattle in his ears, and show him colorful toys, balloons or pictures. The best way to wake your baby is to pat or tap the soles of his feet. But don't pat, hug or rock your baby, otherwise he will fall asleep again quickly and easily develop a bad habit of being held as soon as he cries. At night, try to dim the lights and make the environment quiet so that you can feel comfortable and sleep well.

Why doesn’t the baby sleep during the confinement period? The situations introduced above may be the reasons why the baby cannot sleep. It may also be because the baby sleeps too long during the day, which may lead to less sleep time at night. There may also be some pathological reasons. The cause must be found and treated to ensure the health of the child.
