Will there be abdominal pain after medical abortion?

Recently, a female colleague of mine complained to me that she always had abdominal pain after having a medical abortion, and the abdominal pain has lasted for more than three days. She didn’t know whether this was a normal reaction after the medical abortion and felt very worried. So let’s take a look at whether abdominal pain will occur after medical abortion?

It is normal to have stomach pain after medical abortion. Generally, the abdominal pain after medical abortion does not last more than a week. If you experience abdominal pain and abnormal bleeding after medical abortion, it is recommended that you go for a check-up, as this may indicate a failure of the medical abortion. If medical abortion fails, uterine curettage is required. Some women will experience abdominal pain after medical abortion. If the pain is mild, it is normal because the uterus contracts and there will be slight pain, which usually lasts for 2-3 days. However, two weeks after the abortion, you should go to the hospital for a B-ultrasound check to understand the intrauterine situation in order to determine whether the abortion was successful.

Generally, there are several reasons for abdominal pain after medical abortion. One is blood accumulation in the uterine cavity, which often occurs within a few hours after the abortion. The patient has unbearable abdominal pain, like a knife cutting, and a small amount of blood and water flows out of the vagina. Gynecological examination reveals that the uterus is significantly enlarged, soft, and tender. The number of people who develop intrauterine hematoma is also very small, but it is more likely to occur in women with an overly tilted uterus and a tight cervix. The second is incomplete abortion. After abortion, the uterus undergoes paroxysmal contractions in order to expel the remaining embryonic tissue from the uterus. At this time, the patient has paroxysmal attacks of abdominal pain, which are unbearable. There is also increased vaginal bleeding, which is bright red in color and contains large blood clots. The abdominal pain is relieved after the blood clots are discharged.

So after reading the above introduction, you will find that abdominal pain that lasts for less than a week after medical abortion is a relatively normal phenomenon. However, if the abdominal pain lasts for a long time and has lasted for more than seven days, then you need to pay attention. It would be best to go to the hospital to consult a doctor.
