How to measure the pelvis of pregnant women

Pregnant friends who are just preparing to give birth should have their pelvis measured. Generally speaking, only through measurement can it be determined whether a natural birth is possible, to avoid the fetus being stuck in the pelvis and unable to go down during delivery. This phenomenon can easily cause dystocia. Let me introduce it to you below.

Steps to pelvic measurement

In clinical practice, external pelvic measurements are usually performed first, i.e., the normal diameter between the anterior superior iliac spines is 23-26 cm, the normal diameter between the iliac crests is 25-28 cm, the sacropubic external diameter is greater than 18.5 cm, the normal diameter between the greater trochanters is 28-31 cm, the normal diameter between the ischial tuberosities is 8.5-10 cm, and the pubic arch angle is greater than or equal to 90 degrees. If any or all of the external pelvic diameters are abnormal, internal pelvic measurements should be performed during labor, and a normal delivery method should be chosen based on fetal size, fetal position, and labor force.

If any or all of the external pelvic diameters are abnormal, internal pelvic measurements should be performed during labor, and a normal delivery method should be chosen based on fetal size, fetal position, and labor force.

Abnormal pelvic measurements

If abnormalities are found in external pelvic measurements, internal pelvic measurements should be performed before delivery, and an assessment should be made based on relevant data of the fetus and pelvis to select an appropriate method of delivery. If the fetus is not proportional to the pelvis, cesarean section is the only option.

Best time to measure the pelvis

Clinically, each hospital is different.

Some hospitals measure the pelvis during the initial diagnosis, most hospitals measure the pelvis between 28 and 34 weeks of pregnancy, and some hospitals perform an assessment at 37 to 38 weeks of pregnancy (which includes measuring the pelvis inside the pelvis after disinfection of the vulva or measuring the pelvis through the anus). X-ray pelvic measurement is not recommended to determine whether the fetus can be delivered vaginally. Late orthopedic internal measurement is also not recommended

Every female friend needs to have her pelvis measured when giving birth. This is the best health test to help with childbirth and prevent dystocia during the delivery process.
