2. Insulin resistance and hyperinsulinemia

Some PCOS patients, especially obese patients, may show hyperinsulinemia and insulin resistance, suggesting that it is caused by insulin resistance.

3. Abnormal adrenal function

Hyperfunction of the adrenal cortex and excessive secretion of androgens can cause anovulation and symptoms similar to polycystic ovary.

4. Genetic factors

A small number of cases of PCOS have chromosomal abnormalities.

5. Long-term mental stress and disease effects

Due to mental stress and certain diseases, the hypothalamus-pituitary-ovarian axis regulatory function is abnormal, resulting in excessive production of androgens by ovarian stroma and theca cells; high androgens in the ovaries inhibit the maturation of follicles, resulting in a series of symptoms of PCOS such as amenorrhea and hirsutism.
