Prevention of sequelae of postpartum hemorrhage

Prevention of sequelae of postpartum hemorrhage

For many new mothers who are preparing to give birth, every birth experience is a matter of life and death for each of them. During the birthing process, it is inevitable that some sudden and severe injuries will cause sequelae, such as the sequelae of postpartum hemorrhage, which will cause anemia or excessive physical fatigue. So what should they do? Let’s find out together.

Strengthening uterine contractions is the most rapid and effective way to stop bleeding in the treatment of uterine atony. The midwife quickly puts one hand on the fundus of the uterus, with the thumb on the front wall and the other four fingers on the back wall, and massages the fundus evenly.

After massage, the uterus begins to contract. You can also make a fist with one hand and place it on the anterior vault of the vagina to press against the anterior wall of the uterus. Use the other hand to press the posterior wall of the uterus from the abdominal wall to bend the uterus forward. Press the uterus tightly with both hands and massage it. If necessary, you can place your other hand on the upper edge of the pubic symphysis, press the middle part of the lower abdomen, and push the uterus upward. When massaging the uterus, it is important to emphasize holding the uterus with your hand so that it is higher than the pelvic cavity, and massage it rhythmically and gently.

The pressing time is sufficient for the uterus to return to normal contraction and maintain the contracted state, so that it is higher than the pelvic cavity, and massage gently and rhythmically. The pressing time should be until the uterus returns to normal contraction and can maintain the contraction state.

While massaging, 10U of oxytocin (added to 20ml of 10%-25% glucose solution) can be slowly injected intramuscularly or intravenously, followed by 0.2mg of ergonovine (for patients with heart disease) injected intramuscularly or intravenously. Then add 10-30U of oxytocin into 500ml of 10% glucose solution and drip intravenously to maintain the uterus in a good contraction state.

It is recommended that all new mothers must undergo relevant examinations before giving birth. If they are unable to give birth, they can also choose a cesarean section. They must consider their own safety to prevent the sequelae of postpartum hemorrhage.
