Is it normal for women’s leucorrhea to appear milky white?

Leucorrhea is a unique physiological symptom of women. The color of leucorrhea is generally colorless or slightly white and transparent. So is it normal if the leucorrhea is milky white? Let’s take a look together below!

Normal leucorrhea: Normal leucorrhea is colorless or slightly white, with a slightly sour smell. If it has an odor, you need to eliminate the interference of urine.

When girls reach pre-puberty, their ovaries begin to develop and secrete estrogen, which means they have a small amount of leucorrhea. The leucorrhea at this time is mainly vaginal mucosal exudate, which is white, thin and odorless. Once puberty begins, the ovaries gradually mature, ovulate, and the internal and external genitalia develop. The quality and quantity of leucorrhea changes with the menstrual cycle. Between two menstrual periods (equivalent to the ovulation period), due to the high secretion of estrogen, the cervical glands secrete more mucus, so the leucorrhea is abundant, transparent and sticky. In the three or four days before menstruation, the pelvic cavity is congested due to excessive vaginal exudate and the shedding of vaginal epithelial cells during metabolism. Therefore, the leucorrhea is more abundant and turbid and thick. However, under normal circumstances, there will not be too much vaginal discharge, and you will usually only feel the vagina is wet.

If the amount of leucorrhea increases and flows out in waves like menstruation, and there are changes in color, texture or smell, it is called abnormal leucorrhea. Abnormal leucorrhea in young girls is mostly a manifestation of vaginal inflammation. In case of Trichomonas infection, the leucorrhea is milky white and foamy, and there is vulvar itching. The leucorrhea caused by fungal infection is like tofu dregs or curd, and is also accompanied by vulvar itching. As for the large amount of colorless and transparent mucous leucorrhea, it is common after the use of estrogen drugs (used to regulate menstruation), or due to pelvic congestion such as excessive exercise, excessive fatigue, frequent constipation, etc.

If you find any abnormal leucorrhea, you should seek medical attention as soon as possible. When a trichomoniasis or fungal infection is suspected, a sample of leucorrhea should be tested to find the source and eliminate the cause. If you are worried about any abnormalities in your leucorrhea, you can have a routine leucorrhea check. Hospitals can perform routine leucorrhea examinations, from which you can learn whether your gynecological health is good.

Through the editor’s answer above, do you understand whether leucorrhea is normal? If you find that your leucorrhea is abnormal, you should go to the hospital for diagnosis and treatment in time to avoid missing the best time for treatment.
