Postoperative care for hysterectomy

Postoperative care for hysterectomy

The care we should take after a total hysterectomy is to prevent the uterus from being infected by bacteria. Therefore, for female friends who have undergone a total hysterectomy, you should pay attention to your diet and keep the area around the uterus clean, and also pay attention to your sexual life. Let us now learn about the care methods after hysterectomy.

Generally speaking, within one month after the operation, you should try to avoid going out for a walk, shopping in the mall, skipping rope, sitting for a long time playing cards, etc., and rest in bed more to reduce the gravity pressure on the vaginal wound and allow the wound to heal completely. After one month, do some appropriate sobering outdoor activities, but the time should not be too long. After total hysterectomy, the ligament tissue in the pelvis is traumatized and recovers slowly, so the rest time after surgery is 3 months.

Home Care Instructions:

① Diet: No taboos are required unless otherwise specified by the doctor. It is recommended to consume more high-protein and high-fiber foods.

② Follow-up visit: Take medication regularly and have regular check-ups. If you experience high fever, heavy and prolonged vaginal bleeding, shock, abnormal secretions, or redness, swelling, pain, or suppuration of the surgical wound, you should return for a follow-up visit immediately.

③ Rest: Keep the room clean, tidy and well ventilated. Keep your body clean. You can take a bath one week after discharge from hospital, but be careful to protect the wound. A regular life, adequate sleep, a harmonious family and a happy mood are all conducive to a speedy recovery of the body.

④ Exercise: Avoid lifting heavy objects, holding children, mopping the floor, climbing high to get objects, etc. within 2 months after surgery to prevent damage to the healing abdominal muscles. Avoid activities that increase pelvic congestion, such as sitting for long periods of time, dancing, etc. within six months.

⑤ Menstruation: If there is a small amount of vaginal bleeding within 2 to 6 weeks after the operation, it is caused by the dissolution of the sutures in the intra-abdominal wound. It can be cleaned up after going to the toilet to avoid infection. After a hysterectomy, the patient will no longer have menstruation, but may experience some discomfort, such as skin flushing. Patients can resume normal menstrual cycles 1 to 2 months after surgery.

⑥ Sexual life: Avoid sexual intercourse and vaginal douching within 6 weeks after surgery to avoid damaging new tissue and causing infection.

The article introduces us in detail the care methods after hysterectomy. We hope that female friends should follow them well in their lives. Generally speaking, for patients who have undergone total hysterectomy, we recommend that female friends strengthen their physical exercise, pay more attention to rest, and eat some high-protein and high-fiber foods.
