Why does the fetus move more when sleeping on your side?

Every move of the fetus will inevitably touch the hearts of parents. Some mothers say that the fetal movement is stronger when the baby is lying flat, and some mothers say that the fetal movement is stronger when the baby is sleeping on the side. Most of these are normal and are not the problems we think.

As long as you have regular prenatal checkups, your sleep is not disturbed, and the fetus still has regular fetal movements after waking up, there is no need to worry. I wasn't that anxious when I was pregnant. I felt that the baby moved a lot and I was afraid that he would be too tired, so I would change my sleeping position and do whatever was comfortable. The final result was that every prenatal check-up was successful, the baby was born full-term and was about to turn one year old.

Why do babies move more when sleeping on their side?

1. The baby knows that the mother is resting and wants to play with her for a while. If the mother always sleeps on her left side, the baby has already adapted to the sleeping position of lying on the left side, and knows that the mother is more relaxed at this time, so the baby wants to interact with the mother and hopes that the mother can respond.

2. If you usually sleep on your left side without feeling anything unusual, and this happens only after the second trimester of pregnancy, it means that as the baby grows up, various functions develop, and the baby's fetal movements become stronger, it is easier to feel the baby's fetal movements.

3. If you don't usually sleep on your left side and your baby's fetal movements are too strong, it means that your baby is a little uncomfortable and doesn't like the left side sleeping position. Especially if the baby's fetal movement is strong and affects the mother's sleep quality, the mother must adjust the posture immediately.

Not all mothers are suitable for sleeping on the left side.

One of the purposes of lying on the left side is to reduce the degree of right-rotation of the uterus. If the expectant mother's uterus is not right-rotated, there is no need to lie on the left side.

The purpose of lying on the left side can also reduce the pressure on the uterus, increase the blood supply to the embryo, and allow the fetus to obtain more oxygen and nutrients. If the baby's fetal movement is too strong, it means that the baby's nutrition is sufficient, and too much will be counterproductive.

In fact, sleeping posture during pregnancy varies from person to person and cannot be the same for everyone. When talking about the bad sleeping posture lying on the back, more than a dozen mothers reported that "I can only fall asleep when lying on my back. I feel stomach pain or various discomforts when lying on my left or right side." Some mothers still lie flat until the late stages of pregnancy. A friend of mine also lay flat, and her child was born healthy.

Regarding this matter, many mothers have consulted doctors, and the doctors’ response was, “Do whatever is comfortable for you, don’t worry too much!” It seems that blindly believing in books is worse than having no books at all, and the key is to see what you feel. When sleeping on your side, you often wake up lying flat on your back, and this situation is difficult to control.

Usually you should pay attention to observe the baby's fetal movement. If the baby's fetal movement is normal, there is no problem. During pregnancy, sleep is still the main thing. If you don’t sleep well, feel tired, and have poor appetite, it will seriously affect the healthy growth and development of the fetus.

In short, if your usual prenatal check-ups are normal, don't be too suspicious. Just analyze the reasons patiently and make adjustments that suit you!
