Beware of pelvic inflammatory disease-induced ectopic pregnancy

Under normal circumstances, the fertilized egg should implant and develop in the uterine cavity. If it falls anywhere else, it is called an ectopic pregnancy. Many women think that ectopic pregnancy is far away from them, but in fact it is one of the common gynecological acute abdominal diseases. Ectopic pregnancy can occur in different parts of the body, the most common of which is the fallopian tube. If the fallopian tube ruptures and causes miscarriage, massive intra-abdominal bleeding and severe abdominal pain will occur, which may endanger the patient's life at any time.

Pelvic inflammatory disease is the biggest cause

There are many factors that lead to ectopic pregnancy, the biggest cause of which is inflammation such as pelvic inflammatory disease, especially fallopian tube inflammation. Inflammation causes adhesions in the fallopian tubes, leading to narrowing of the lumen and affecting the normal operation of the fertilized egg. When the fertilized egg is blocked and cannot return to the uterine cavity, it implants in the fallopian tube, causing an ectopic pregnancy.

In addition, ectopic pregnancy may also be caused by hypoplastic or malformed fallopian tubes, or compression or deformation of the fallopian tubes by pelvic tumors. At the same time, women need to pay special attention that frequent abortions and smoking will also increase the risk of ectopic pregnancy. The former is because frequent abortions cause intrauterine trauma that makes it difficult for the embryo to implant in the uterus, while the latter may be because certain substances in tobacco affect the normal peristalsis of the fallopian tube cilia and cause ectopic pregnancy.

Some people say that women who have children late or who frequently do vaginal douching are more likely to have ectopic pregnancy. Ectopic pregnancy has little to do with age, but frequent vaginal douching leading to ectopic pregnancy may be due to improper douching, which aggravates inflammation and causes ectopic pregnancy.

Ectopic pregnancy does not necessarily require surgery

The typical symptoms of ectopic pregnancy are abdominal pain and irregular vaginal bleeding after menstruation. Although some people do not have a history of menopause, this is not typical. Therefore, when the three major symptoms of amenorrhea, abdominal pain and irregular vaginal bleeding appear, you should be alert to the possibility of ectopic pregnancy. In the past, the only way to treat ectopic pregnancy was laparotomy. But nowadays, people have other options, such as conservative treatment with medication, or opting for minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery. If it is detected early and the condition is not serious, it can be treated with medication.

Otherwise, surgical treatment is required, during which the diseased fallopian tube is usually removed. However, if the woman has not yet given birth, the "window embryo retrieval" storage technique can be considered. Whether the operation will affect fertility depends on whether the retained fallopian tube is healthy and whether it can maintain normal physiological functions. Generally speaking, women who experience ectopic pregnancy have chronic inflammation, so if only the other fallopian tube is retained without treating the inflammation, it will also affect normal pregnancy, and the chance of another ectopic pregnancy will be relatively increased.

Therefore, to achieve a normal pregnancy, inflammation must be controlled. Secondly, you can go to the hospital for a fallopian tube hydrotubation test after your period to see if the fallopian tubes are unobstructed. If no check-up was done before pregnancy, an ultrasound examination can be done after menopause so that abnormalities can be detected in time in the early stages of pregnancy.
