Four major health risks for middle-aged and elderly women

Four major health risks for middle-aged and elderly women

Overweight and obesity

A survey conducted by the Institute of Nutrition and Food Hygiene of the Chinese Academy of Preventive Medicine on 843 women aged 25 and above in a certain city confirmed that 45% of the city's middle-aged women are overweight, of which 27% have abdominal obesity, with the highest rate being women around 45 years old. This kind of "centripetal accumulation" of fat not only affects the appearance, but has also become a major risk factor for chronic non-communicable diseases. Studies have shown that overweight people with abdominal obesity are more likely to develop diabetes and cardiovascular disease than obese people with a well-proportioned body. As women with abdominal obesity age, their waist circumference increases, and their blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol, etc. also increase significantly, while the high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, which acts as a "scavenger", drops sharply. This is an important reason for the sharp increase in the incidence of diabetes in middle-aged and elderly women in recent years.

Anemia prevalence continues to rise

According to a survey, the anemia rate among urban women is around 20%, twice that of men. A study on the relationship between chronic diseases and nutrition in middle-aged and elderly people found that the prevalence of anemia in middle-aged women aged 35 to 44 was much higher than that in women of other age groups. The results of the analysis of relevant hemoglobin and related dietary factors showed that women in this age group reported the lowest intake of energy and protein in their diet, reaching only 87% of the required standard. Experts believe that middle-aged women in my country usually place career, work and children more important than their own health. While we are busy with life, our health is also being "overdrawn". If you do not pay attention to a balanced diet and scientific nutrition, diseases will find a breakthrough here.

Susceptible to osteoporosis

According to a sample survey conducted by a women's health center in a certain city, women aged 50 and 40 are 1.25 cm shorter on average. After women enter middle age, endocrine changes have a significant impact on the occurrence of osteoporosis. Many middle-aged women take estrogen supplements after menopause to prevent osteoporosis, but this is actually a premature approach. Because whether women can get enough calcium from dietary nutrition before middle age will affect their health throughout their lives. The study found that middle-aged women who have a balanced diet, drink milk every day, and consume more than half a pound of dark vegetables have the highest bone density. Osteoporosis can be prevented by getting enough calcium and other nutrients in your diet starting at a young age.

Susceptibility to heart disease

When middle-aged women reach menopause, without the protection of estrogen, their chances of dying from heart disease will increase significantly. In order to explore the protective effect of dietary factors on the heart, researchers conducted a health study on more than 80,000 women and found that the intake of folic acid and vitamin B6 in the diet was closely related to the occurrence of coronary heart disease. In a 5-level controlled study of folic acid and vitamin Bo supplementation, women who consumed more than 400 micrograms of folic acid and 3 milligrams of vitamin B6 per day had the lowest risk of coronary heart disease. Because folic acid and vitamin B6 can accelerate the metabolism of homocysteine, a risk factor for coronary heart disease, which is already elevated in plasma, and lower its level, thereby protecting the heart and reducing the occurrence of coronary heart disease.
