Nearly 15 million couples in China suffer from infertility, and there are so many reasons for their inability to have children!

When it comes to "making babies", there is a lot of ups and downs. Some people can always plant willows and get them into trees, while others can't have babies no matter how hard they try.

Statistics show that the infertility rate worldwide is as high as 15%-20%, and there are about 15 million infertile couples in China. Infertility, cancer, and cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases are the three major diseases that affect human health today. Why is the probability of infertility so high? What causes infertility? What tests are needed to diagnose infertility? …

1. What is considered infertility?

In fact, pregnancy is not as easy as we think. According to statistics, for a couple with normal fertility, living together without contraception, the pregnancy rate in one month is about 20%, in one year it is about 85%, and in two years it is about 93%. Therefore, if you have not conceived in one year of trying to conceive, you can go to the hospital to seek help from a professional doctor .

Shen Lihui, director of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Changsha Taihe Hospital , said: " Infertility is when a couple has normal sexual life and has not taken any contraceptive measures for more than a year without getting pregnant . Infertility is divided into two categories: primary and secondary . Those who have never had a history of pregnancy and have never gotten pregnant without contraception are considered primary infertility, while those who have had a history of pregnancy but have not gotten pregnant without contraception are considered secondary infertility."

If a female is 35 years old or older , has a normal sexual life, has not become pregnant after six months of not taking any contraceptive measures, and is suspected of being infertile, she needs to go to the hospital for active examination and treatment.

2. What is the main cause of infertility?

Simply put, to successfully conceive a baby, you need good seeds (healthy sperm and eggs), good channels (unobstructed fallopian tubes), good soil (a uterine environment suitable for embryo growth), a good mentality for preparing for pregnancy, etc. If anything goes wrong in any link, it may lead to infertility.

It can be seen that there are many factors that cause infertility, and problems may exist in both men and women .

However, due to factors such as environmental pollution, delayed childbearing age, life and work pressure, and bad habits (sitting for long periods of time, staying up late, smoking and drinking) , the number of infertile people is still increasing.

3. If you suspect infertility, what tests should you do?

Infertility examinations should follow the principle of "examining husband and wife together" and the order of "first male, then female".

The male examination is simple, easy and non-invasive, so it should be performed as the first step. First, a routine physical examination is performed to check the development of the male's internal and external genitalia . After confirming that the development and sexual function are normal, a semen examination is performed. If the semen examination is also normal, the male factor is basically ruled out.

Not only are there many examination items for women, but they also need to coordinate their menstrual cycle when undergoing the examination, so it is more time-consuming and laborious than the examination for men.

● Routine gynecological examination: such as leucorrhea, mycoplasma, chlamydia, gonorrhea and other examinations can rule out vaginal malformation, vaginal inflammation and cervical lesions.

●Ultrasound examination: roughly check whether there are any lesions in the uterus, ovaries, and fallopian tubes, rule out uterine myoma, ovarian cysts, polycystic ovaries, etc., understand the development of follicles, ovulation and the condition of the endometrium, etc.

●Endocrine examination: including various hormone tests to understand the ovarian reserve capacity.

●Fallopian tube patency check: Check whether the fallopian tubes are unobstructed, identify the site of fallopian tube blockage, and check for uterine malformations, submucosal fibroids, etc.

●Immune antibody or chromosome examination: Check for chromosomal abnormalities, anti-sperm antibodies, anti-endometrial antibodies, etc.

●Hysteroscopic and laparoscopic examination: If the above examinations cannot find the cause, you can consider hysteroscopy or laparoscopy to directly observe whether there are any lesions or adhesions in the pelvis, uterus, fallopian tubes, and ovaries.

ps: Specific examination items need to be confirmed under the evaluation and diagnosis of a professional doctor.

4. How to deal with infertility

First of all, when facing the situation of not being able to get pregnant normally, don't be anxious. Treating infertility is a long process, and you should maintain a positive and optimistic attitude . In addition, emotional tension and excessive stress will affect normal conception.

Secondly, you need to do a scientific and comprehensive examination in a regular hospital to identify the cause and then carry out targeted treatment. Don't be superstitious about folk prescriptions or blindly use medicine, otherwise it may be counterproductive.

Again, except for absolute infertility cases such as women without a uterus or vagina and men with testicular azoospermia, most infertile couples will increase their chances of natural conception after receiving Chinese and Western medicine treatments, interventional treatments, hysteroscopy and (or) laparoscopic surgery, etc .; if they still cannot get pregnant, they can consider artificial insemination, in vitro fertilization and other methods.

Finally, early prevention and early treatment . Some common gynecological diseases in women, such as vaginitis, pelvic inflammatory disease, cervicitis, etc., can be treated early to avoid infertility in the future.
