What is tinnitus?

1. Why does tinnitus occur?

Tinnitus is a very uncomfortable thing. Many people will experience tinnitus in their lives. Most of them are short-term and will disappear on their own after a period of time. However, if long-term and persistent tinnitus occurs in a quiet environment and in a good mental state, it may be caused by certain diseases, including ear factors, such as excessive accumulation of earwax, middle ear infection, inner ear disease, Eustachian tube obstruction, ear aging, acoustic neuroma, and systemic diseases, such as complications caused by cardiovascular, diabetes, and thyroid diseases.

2. Can tinnitus be prevented?

Most tinnitus can be prevented. Try to avoid noise in your daily life. For example, when using electronic devices, control the volume to 60% of the maximum volume to prevent the ears from overloading. When you cannot stay away from noise, wear good quality soundproofing tools in time. If you suspect that you have a primary disease that may cause tinnitus symptoms (such as otitis media), you should seek medical attention in time. Once the primary disease is cured, the tinnitus will naturally disappear.

3. What should I do if I have tinnitus?

If it is mild and transient tinnitus caused by environmental and mental factors, the symptoms can be alleviated by improving the environment and adjusting the mental state. Persistent tinnitus that is ineffective after improving the environment and adjusting the mental state is likely caused by certain diseases. You should go to the hospital in time and actively cooperate with the doctor to treat the primary disease to improve the tinnitus symptoms.
