The old man got burned after eating a bowl of Pianerchuan and used a "traditional method" to reduce the swelling, but the situation became worse

A bowl of "Pianerchuan", with the tip of the tongue touching the noodle soup entering the throat, the fresh and fragrant feeling of warming the stomach, is Mr. Qi's (pseudonym) favorite noodle dish in winter. But it is this favorite that makes him suffer.

One day, Uncle Qi made himself a bowl of steaming hot Pianerchuan noodles, but he slipped and the scalding hot noodle soup poured all over the back of his foot, causing him to feel a piercing pain.

Uncle Qi remembered that someone had mentioned a "folk remedy" that applying soy sauce could relieve the symptoms of burns, so he immediately took out soy sauce from the kitchen and applied it to the instep of his foot. Unexpectedly, the pain became even worse. He tossed and turned at night and couldn't sleep, and several large blisters appeared on the instep of his foot.

Seeing the wound on the instep of his foot begin to turn red and ulcerate, Mr. Qi rushed to the Xiasha campus of Hangzhou First People's Hospital for medical treatment. Ding Xiaowei, deputy director of the First Department of Rehabilitation Medicine, carefully assessed the condition of the wound. Because the burn wound was large and the patient had difficulty moving, he recommended that Mr. Qi be hospitalized for treatment as soon as possible.

After comprehensive treatments including debridement and disinfection, growth factor application therapy, laser physical factor therapy, etc., Mr. Qi has now recovered and been discharged from the hospital.

Ding Xiaowei pointed out that in autumn and winter, the outpatient clinic often sees more patients with burns. Many patients, like Grandpa Qi, use folk remedies to treat the disease themselves, which not only delays the best treatment time, but also increases the cost of subsequent treatment.

In daily life, there are usually these misunderstandings: First, ice cubes are used instead of running water for ice compresses. In fact, the skin tissue after burns has no epidermal protection and becomes more fragile. Direct ice compresses are more likely to cause frostbite on the skin. Secondly, after burns, patients squeeze the affected area and tear the blisters by themselves. Ordinary people's hands contain bacteria and cannot perform aseptic operations like doctors. Squeezing and tearing blisters are more likely to cause wound infection. There are also some folk methods, such as applying toothpaste, soy sauce, salt water, lard, etc. on the wound. Not only does it have no therapeutic effect, it may also cause infection and prolong the wound healing time. The coagulation and adhesion of the wound will increase the difficulty of doctors in treating the wound. It may also affect the doctor's judgment of the depth of the wound because the color penetrates into the tissue, delaying treatment. Of course, there are also patients who use irritating liquids such as alcohol and iodine to disinfect the wound. After the skin tissue is burned, the protein coagulates and necrotizes, and the tissue cells of the burn wound are fragile and sensitive. Alcohol is highly irritating and has high penetrating power. If alcohol is used to disinfect burn wounds, it can easily cause further necrosis of burn wound cells, leading to increased pain and deepening of the wound.

So how should we deal with burns and scalds correctly in life? Ding Xiaowei suggested that we should remember five words.

Rinse: Put the burned area under the faucet and rinse with clean, running cold water for about 30 minutes. The water flow does not need to be too fast. Remember not to use ice cubes, as the temperature of ice cubes is too low and will cause the burn or scald wound to worsen.

Take off: Use scissors to cut open the clothes, do not peel them off directly to avoid damaging the skin. It is important to avoid sharp scissors from hurting the skin or breaking blisters. If you have rings or other items, please take them off immediately to avoid local swelling of the fingers later.

Soak: If the burn area is small, continue to soak the burn area in cold water for 10 to 30 minutes. This can not only relieve pain but also further dissipate heat.

Cover: Cover the wound with sterile gauze or a clean towel and secure it to keep the wound clean and reduce the chance of infection. If blisters form locally, do not puncture them yourself. Go to a regular hospital and treat them under strict sterile disinfection.

Send: If it is a serious burn, go to the hospital as soon as possible for further treatment.
