You can’t eat out when you’re on dialysis? You’re totally wrong. In fact, these are highly recommended!

You can’t eat out when you’re on dialysis? You’re totally wrong. In fact, these are highly recommended!

1. Steamed fish

Many restaurants have this dish. Fish is a good source of high-quality protein. Steaming preserves the fish's nutrition to the maximum extent. Compared with deep-frying or braising, steaming fish uses less oil and seasoning. Avoid choosing steamed fish with a lot of heavy sauces such as fermented black beans and bean paste, and ask the restaurant to use less salt and soy sauce. Such steamed fish is an ideal choice for dialysis patients to supplement protein.

2. Stir-fried seasonal vegetables

Dishes like stir-fried broccoli and stir-fried Chinese cabbage. Vegetables are rich in vitamins, minerals and dietary fiber. Stir-frying is a simple cooking method that can ensure the original flavor of vegetables. Broccoli is rich in nutrients such as vitamin C, vitamin K and potassium (dialysis patients can take it in moderation), and Chinese cabbage is rich in dietary fiber, which helps intestinal peristalsis. These stir-fried seasonal vegetables are refreshing and delicious, and will not put too much burden on the kidneys of dialysis patients.

3. Tomato and Egg Soup

This is a common and healthy soup. Eggs are high-quality proteins, and tomatoes are rich in antioxidants such as vitamin C and lycopene. It is simple to make and tastes delicious. You can ask the restaurant to use less salt to keep the soup light. Dialysis patients can drink tomato and egg soup in moderation to supplement nutrition and satisfy their appetite.

4. Boiled Shrimp

Shrimp is a high-protein, low-fat food. The blanching method can retain the nutrients of shrimp to the greatest extent. When ordering blanched shrimp in a restaurant, ask not to pair it with too complicated dipping sauces to avoid excessive intake of salt and other irritating ingredients. For dialysis patients, blanched shrimp is one of the high-quality sources of protein for out-of-home meals.

As long as dialysis patients pay attention to choosing appropriate dishes and cooking methods when dining out, they can also enjoy the fun of dining out while ensuring their own health.
