There are several main types of surgery to correct astigmatism.

1. Laser corneal refractive surgery (LASIK/LASEK/PRK): The Chinese name of LASIK is excimer laser in situ keratomileusis, which is to make a small incision on the surface of the cornea and then use laser to reshape the corneal surface to improve astigmatism. The Chinese name of PRK is excimer laser subepithelial keratomileusis, which is to remove the corneal epithelium and then directly reshape the corneal stroma with laser. LASEK is a modified PRK surgery, which is to first lift the corneal epithelium, then perform laser surgery, and finally reposition the epithelium. Laser corneal refractive surgery is to improve vision and visual quality by reshaping the cornea. It has the characteristics of small incision, small trauma, and fast recovery. The best correction range is myopia within 1000 degrees, that is, astigmatism within 600 degrees.

2. ICL lens implantation: It corrects vision by implanting an ICL lens into the eye. It can correct myopia within 1800 degrees and astigmatism within 600 degrees. No matter which surgical method is chosen, it is safe and effective.

3. Artificial lens replacement: For patients with cataracts, cataract extraction combined with astigmatic intraocular lens implantation can be selected. This is to improve vision and visual quality by implanting an astigmatic lens into the eye. At present, the field of intraocular lenses is developing rapidly. Under the guidance of a doctor, you can choose high-end lenses that can solve cataracts, presbyopia, myopia/hyperopia and astigmatism problems at the same time.

Choosing surgery to correct astigmatism depends on your individual circumstances and your doctor's professional advice. A comprehensive eye examination, understanding the effects and risks of surgery, listening to your doctor's advice, and considering factors such as cost and insurance can help you choose the surgery that's best for you.
