How far is lung cancer from us?

Everyone is familiar with the term "lung cancer", but in which specific parts of the body does a malignant tumor belong to lung cancer, and which groups of people are more susceptible to lung cancer? We have invited Dr. Yang Xue from the Department of Oncology at the Affiliated Hospital of Qingdao University to provide a targeted interpretation. Let us listen to the answers from professionals!

1. Question: Teacher Yang, what kind of disease is lung cancer?

Answer: Lung cancer is a malignant tumor that grows in the trachea, bronchi, bronchioles and alveolar tissue. It is currently the malignant tumor with the highest incidence and mortality in my country.

2. Question: Teacher Yang, which group of people are more susceptible to lung cancer?

A: We are all candidates for lung cancer. Lung cancer is the most common cancer in China. Every year, more than 1.3 million people are diagnosed with lung cancer and more than 1.1 million people die from lung cancer. However, smokers over 50 years old, people with a history of tuberculosis (especially those with tuberculosis scars), people who have been exposed to kitchen fume pollution, indoor incense burning and coal smoke pollution for a long time, and people with a history of exposure to occupational carcinogens (working environment with asbestos, inorganic arsenic compounds, coal smoke, tar, and polycyclic aromatic hydroxyl in petroleum) are more likely to get sick.

3. Question: Teacher Yang, what are the signs of lung cancer? When should we pay attention to the signs?

A: The possible signs of lung cancer include the following:

(1) Unexplained irritating dry cough;

(2) Cough persists after a cold;

(3) Sudden onset of sputum with blood or a small amount of fresh blood;

(4) Persistent cough for more than 3 months, increased sputum, and even bloody sputum;

(5) Diffuse, unfixed chest pain or back pain, shoulder pain, or upper abdominal pain;

(6) Recurrent pneumonia at a fixed site.

4. Question: Teacher Yang, will smoking definitely lead to lung cancer?

A: Lung cancer is related to the age at which smoking starts, the number of years of smoking, the number of cigarettes smoked per day, and the type of cigarettes. Smokers are more than 10 times more likely to develop lung cancer than non-smokers. In China, 80% of lung cancer patients are smokers. If they smoke 25 cigarettes a day, 12% of them will develop lung cancer. Second-hand and third-hand smoke are particularly harmful to infants and young children.

5. Question: Teacher Yang, what preventive and treatment measures should be taken against lung cancer?

Answer: Prevention is the best cure. To correctly understand lung cancer, the high-risk groups mentioned above should have regular physical examinations, early detection and early treatment, and pay attention to the prevention and treatment of lung diseases. To prevent lung cancer, you can pay attention to eating more of the following foods:

(1) Vitamin A can protect and strengthen the mucous membrane and play an important role in blocking bacterial invasion. Eat yellow-green vegetables containing beta-carotene.

(2) Using vegetable oil when cooking helps the body absorb fat-soluble vitamins.

(3) Take enough vitamin C. Such as carrots, tomatoes, celery, spinach, hot peppers, leeks, mangoes, papayas, pomegranates, lemons, pineapples, oranges, etc.

In addition, paying attention to developing the following small habits in daily life can also help improve your health and keep you away from cancer:

(1) Drink a glass of warm water in the morning;

(2) Maintain a positive attitude and avoid negative emotions;

(3) Develop the habit of chewing food slowly;

(4) Avoid bad habits in life;

(5) Do not drink too much (a little wine can make you happy, but too much can harm your body);

(6) Maintain a regular work and rest schedule to enhance your immunity.

Finally, if you are unfortunately diagnosed with cancer, I hope you will not be overly anxious. Having cancer does not mean you are doomed. You can seek help from a specialist in time, work together to develop reasonable treatment measures, overcome the difficulties brought by treatment, and work hard to fight cancer!
