Polio vaccine? The sugar pills we talked about as kids?

That’s right!

With the progress of the times

Polio vaccines have also changed a lot

From May 1, 2016,

The “sugar pill” (tOPV) is out

Changed to injection and oral drops

IPV+bOPV

Adopting the “1+3” procedure

Starting from November 1 this year, the "2+2" procedure will be adopted

"2+2" advantage: Compared with bOPV (bivalent attenuated live polio vaccine oral drops), IPV (injectable trivalent inactivated polio vaccine) is safer and covers a wider range of virus types. However, due to the limited production capacity of IPV and its high price, IPV cannot be used in the current national free children's vaccination program, and can only be "1 dose of IPV + 3 doses of bOPV".

In order to provide more comprehensive protection for babies, Zhejiang Province decided to officially implement the "2+2" program from November 1, 2018. All children born on or after August 1, 2018 in Hangzhou who have not completed the second dose of polio vaccination can enjoy this benefit regardless of their household registration.

Before May 1, 2016, the polio vaccination schedule used sugar pills (tOPV).

On May 1, 2016, the polio vaccine replacement strategy was implemented.

On November 1, 2018, Zhejiang Province will change to a 2+2 program.

Currently, full IPV vaccination is also feasible, which requires self-payment. Parents can consult the community hospital for specific details and choose appropriate vaccination.

Polio Tips

Poliomyelitis is an acute infectious disease caused by the poliovirus that seriously endangers children's health. It mainly attacks the motor neurons of the central nervous system, mainly damaging the motor neurons in the anterior horns of the spinal cord. Most patients are children aged 1 to 6 years old. The main symptoms are fever, general discomfort, limb pain in severe cases, and irregular distribution and varying degrees of flaccid paralysis, commonly known as poliomyelitis.

There is currently no specific drug to treat polio virus infection, and polio vaccination is the most economical and effective means of preventing the disease. my country achieved the goal of being polio-free in 2000, but there are still cases of wild polio virus in other countries around my country, and there is a risk of wild virus importation and transmission, so polio vaccination is particularly important.
