Exploring the "warning signs" of kidney disease, an article explains

1. Edema

Edema is one of the common symptoms of kidney disease. Patients may find swelling in their eyelids and face when they wake up in the morning. As the disease progresses, edema may occur in the lower limbs, ankles, and even the whole body.

This type of edema causes the skin to sag after pressing and is slow to recover. The cause is usually impaired kidney function, which leads to water and sodium retention and inability to excrete excess water from the body normally.

2. Proteinuria

Proteinuria is characterized by the presence of large amounts of foam in the urine, which persists and does not dissipate.

Under normal circumstances, the glomerular filtration membrane of the kidney can block the passage of large molecular proteins, but when the kidney is diseased, the permeability of the filtration membrane increases and the protein will leak into the urine.

Persistent proteinuria often indicates substantial kidney damage.

3. Hematuria

Hematuria can be divided into gross hematuria and microscopic hematuria. In gross hematuria, the urine is meat-washing water-like, dark tea-colored or even bright red. Microscopic hematuria requires microscopic examination to detect increased red blood cells.

Hematuria may be caused by a variety of kidney and urinary tract diseases such as glomerular disease, pyelonephritis, and urinary stones.

Unexplained hematuria needs to be taken seriously and further examination should be conducted to determine the cause.

These symptoms of kidney disease may occur alone or at the same time. If you find the above symptoms, you should seek medical attention in time and undergo relevant examinations, such as urine routine, renal function tests, and renal ultrasound, so as to diagnose and treat them early and protect kidney function.
