Eating less salt does not mean less intake! These 10 commonly eaten foods are actually "invisible salt consumers"

Eating less salt does not mean less intake! These 10 commonly eaten foods are actually "invisible salt consumers"

Everyone knows that we need to control salt in our daily diet, but there are some foods that do not taste salty but have a very high salt content because they contain a lot of "invisible salt."

Table salt is a crystal of sodium chloride. When you buy food, the nutrition facts on the label clearly indicate the sodium content. So if you want to identify "invisible salt", there is only one way - just look at the sodium content.

1g (1000mg) sodium = 2.5g salt

For example, taking bean paste as an example, every 100g contains 8000mg of sodium, which is 8g. So there are 20g of salt in 100g of bean paste.

These 10 types of food contain "invisible salt", so be careful:

1. Condiments

2. Processed meat

3. Various noodles and instant noodles

4. Fried foods such as dough sticks and potato chips

5. Cheese (especially natural cheese)

6. Dried tofu, braised dried meat, vegetarian chicken and other processed soy products

7. Bread, cakes, biscuits, ice cream and other sweets

8. Dried Fruit

9. Sports drinks, milk tea, instant coffee and other beverages 1

0. Sweet and sour dishes

The "Dietary Guidelines for Chinese Residents (2022 Edition)" recommends that our daily salt intake should not exceed 5 grams per day, which is less than the size of a mineral water bottle cap. However, our current intake is 9.3 grams per day, about double the standard, and about 80% of it is salt added to cooking.
