Beware of these diseases during the flower viewing season. They are more common in spring and summer.

Spring is in the air, and many people choose to go outing to enjoy the flowers. But after the outing, some people's eyes became red and swollen and they couldn't open them, and some even had decreased vision. Recently, the number of such patients in the outpatient department of Wuhan University Aier Eye Hospital has increased. The hospital's ocular surface and corneal disease specialist said that spring and summer are the peak seasons for allergic conjunctivitis, and many adults and children have been "infected", with children accounting for the majority.

9-year-old Sisi (pseudonym) went to the Wuhan University Affiliated Aier Eye Hospital for treatment due to unbearable itchy eyes. After examination, Sisi's conjunctiva was edematous and congested, and the eyelid conjunctiva was covered with follicles of varying sizes. There was a small amount of white, sticky, and filamentous secretions in the conjunctival sac, so she was diagnosed with allergic conjunctivitis. Yang Wanju, deputy chief physician of the ocular surface and corneal disease department, said that the number of patients of this type currently seen is significantly higher, and children account for the majority.

It turned out that Sisi's parents took her to a popular flower-viewing spot to check in while the weather was fine, and she kept rubbing her eyes after returning. It is reported that seasonal allergic conjunctivitis is mainly caused by contact with allergens in the outdoor environment, such as pollen or seeds, and often reaches its peak in spring and summer every year. Perennial allergic conjunctivitis is mainly caused by contact with indoor allergens such as dust mites, pets and their dander, feathers, fungi, etc. The main symptoms are itchy eyes, accompanied by blurred vision, decreased vision, photophobia, etc.

"When going out in spring, you should take physical protection measures, wear hats, masks, glasses, etc., and avoid allergens. People with allergies should not go to places with lush vegetation. After going out, you should wash your hands and hair in time to reduce the impact of pollen." Yang Wanju said that the air in the room should also be kept moist to prevent pollen from entering the room when the windows are opened.
