2024 Medical Science Popularization - Ultrasound-guided Thyroid Nodule Ablation

[The principle of thyroid nodule ablation] is to inactivate the target in situ under ultrasound guidance, causing coagulative necrosis, and then the necrotic tissue is slowly absorbed by the body, thereby achieving the purpose of in situ eradication or destruction of the target. In layman's terms, after local anesthesia, an ablation needle is inserted into the lesion under real-time ultrasound monitoring, and the ablation needle tip is controlled by preset parameters to heat up, so that the nodule is "burned" in situ and no longer grows.

[Indications for ultrasound-guided thyroid ablation] ① Almost all benign thyroid nodules, such as nodular goiter, adenoma, cyst, etc.; ② Papillary thyroid carcinoma, especially for early and tiny ones (less than 1 cm in diameter); ③ Hyperthyroidism that has failed to respond to regular medical treatment; ④ The presence of subjective symptoms, such as neck discomfort or pain, breathing or swallowing difficulties, etc.; ⑤ Aesthetic needs; ⑥ Those who cannot tolerate or refuse surgery.

[Outstanding advantages of ultrasound-guided thyroid ablation] ① Safe, convenient, less invasive, and quick recovery; ② Can preserve thyroid function to the greatest extent possible.

It should be noted that thyroid ablation is not suitable for all thyroid diseases. The doctor will consider the patient's specific situation comprehensively. If necessary, go to the relevant department of the hospital as soon as possible.
