Have you ignored visual fatigue?

Nowadays, more and more eye health problems have caused a lot of troubles to people. In recent years, myopia among children and adolescents has been widely concerned by all sectors of society. But there is another problem that is easily overlooked, that is, "eye fatigue". Staring at the screen for a long time and incorrect eye posture may cause eye fatigue. And eye fatigue is likely to affect our work and life. Many people may think that it is just a simple eye fatigue, and it will be fine after a rest. But in fact, eye fatigue is far more than that.

What is eyestrain?

Visual fatigue is a group of syndromes caused by various reasons that cause the human eye to see things with a load that exceeds the capacity of its visual function, resulting in visual impairment, eye discomfort or systemic symptoms after using the eyes, making it impossible to perform normal visual tasks.

Causes of visual fatigue

1. Eye problems: Refractive errors such as myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism, latent strabismus, conjunctivitis, keratitis, etc. can easily cause visual fatigue.

(ii) Systemic factors: Neurasthenia, physical overwork, lack of sleep, etc. can all cause visual fatigue. Environmental factors are what we often encounter;

(III) Environmental factors: Insufficient or excessive light, uneven distribution of light sources or flickering light sources can also cause visual fatigue. A classic example is playing with your phone before going to bed with the lights off, which is very harmful to your eyes. When the lights are turned off, the pupils dilate, and the angle of the chamber affects the outflow of aqueous humor, causing a temporary increase in intraocular pressure, making it more likely to cause visual fatigue. If this continues for a long time, you will suffer from glaucoma, which may lead to blindness.

What to do when your eyes are tired?

In milder cases:

① Change the environment: maintain good and moderate lighting, ensure a certain humidity in the room, and apply hot compresses to the eyes regularly.

② Change the overall condition: increasing exercise and maintaining physical and mental health will help reduce visual fatigue;

③ Change your lifestyle habits: maintain a reasonable amount of eye time, ensure good sleep, etc.;

④ Ensure mental health: keep a good mood and take stress lightly.

In severe cases:

If the degree of visual fatigue is severe, or it continues to persist, and even affects work and life, it is recommended to go to the hospital as soon as possible to find out the cause and follow scientific medical treatment.

Zhu Lina, director of Tianjin University Aier Eye Hospital, said that long-term eye fatigue not only brings fatigue and itching, but also long-term health risks. The deterioration of eye condition is caused by continuous accumulation, so we must pay attention to our eye habits and help our eyes balance work and rest.
