The "silent killer" in the blood

——Hyperlipidemia

As people's material lives continue to improve, in the fast-paced modern life, everyone faces some health challenges to a greater or lesser extent, among which the issue of "hyperlipidemia" has attracted more and more attention.

Next, I will provide some scientific knowledge on the "hyperlipidemia" that everyone is concerned about.

1. What is hyperlipidemia?

We also call hyperlipidemia "dyslipidemia", which refers to one or more abnormalities in total cholesterol, triglycerides, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol in serum.

2. What are the symptoms of hyperlipidemia?

Hyperlipidemia usually does not have any clinical symptoms, and some people may find xanthomas on the eyelid skin during physical examinations.

3. Why is hyperlipidemia called the “silent killer”?

The risk of cardiovascular disease in patients with hyperlipidemia is 2-3 times that of normal people. Most patients do not have obvious discomfort, and many people are unaware of their high blood lipids, but they may suffer from myocardial infarction, stroke, and sudden death without knowing it. Therefore, they are called "the gentlest silent killer."

4. How does hyperlipidemia cause atherosclerosis?

High-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) is the "vascular angel" that transports excess cholesterol in the blood vessels to the liver and is called "good cholesterol"; low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) is the "vascular devil" that transports cholesterol synthesized in the liver into the blood vessels and is called "bad cholesterol". When the "devil" defeats the "angel", blood vessel blockage will occur, causing atherosclerosis.

5. Who is more likely to suffer from hyperlipidemia?

If you or your family members suffer from cardiovascular disease, hypertension, diabetes, obesity, smoking, etc., you need to pay attention to blood lipids. It is recommended that you have regular physical examinations and monitor blood lipids regularly.

Everyone should remember:

Hyperlipidemia is easy to treat.

Early detection is important.

Eat regularly and have regular physical examinations.

Pay attention to blood lipids to prevent serious diseases.
