Why can we see more clearly when we squint?

When many children cannot see the blackboard or things far away clearly, they will choose to squint their eyes or squeeze their eyes with their hands, leaving a small gap to see things, because this will make them see more clearly. However, doing this for a long time can cause great harm to the eyes!

The ability to see distant objects clearly by squinting your eyes is actually the principle of pinhole imaging .

The smaller the pinhole, the clearer the image. This is because when the pinhole is smaller, the scattering angle of the light is also smaller, and the formed spot is also smaller, so the image is clearer. Squinting or squeezing your eyes will block part of the pupil, so you can see things more clearly.

Zhu Lina, director of Tianjin University Aier Eye Hospital, said that squinting to see things is not a good habit. Doing so for a long time can easily lead to visual fatigue, and there is a risk of increased myopia and astigmatism. If you have difficulty seeing things, please correct your vision in time and wear glasses of appropriate degrees.

Parents should pay special attention. If their children squint their eyes, squeeze their eyes with their hands, or tilt their heads to see things, they must take it seriously and go to a professional ophthalmology hospital for examination in time. There may be problems with their children's vision!

The importance of timely vision correction

When children have vision problems, many parents are worried that wearing glasses will affect their appearance and that their myopia will become worse, so they are reluctant to let their children wear glasses. This is actually a misunderstanding and can easily aggravate children's vision problems. Wearing lenses with the right degree can help children see things clearly and reduce eye fatigue. Wearing glasses and maintaining good eye habits can also help control the increase of myopia.
