Attention, patients with high uric acid! Don’t just look at purine when eating!

The acidity and alkalinity of food is one of the important factors affecting human health. Understanding the acidity and alkalinity of food and matching diet rationally are of great significance for maintaining the body's acid-base balance, preventing diseases and promoting health.

It is generally believed that patients with high uric acid should reduce the intake of high-purine foods, such as meat, seafood, and animal offal. However, simply reducing the intake of purine foods is not enough to completely relieve the symptoms of high uric acid. Patients also need to pay attention to the acid-base balance in their diet and consume alkaline foods appropriately.

Distinguishing acidic and alkaline foods

In the public's mind, acidity and alkalinity can be judged by tasting with the tongue, whether it is sour or astringent; or by chemical methods; or by experience. In fact, not all foods that taste acidic are acidic. The acidity and alkalinity of food depends on the type and content of minerals contained in the food: potassium, sodium, calcium, magnesium, and iron are alkaline after entering the human body; phosphorus, chlorine, and sulfur are acidic after entering the human body.

Effects of acidic foods on patients with hyperuricemia

The production of high uric acid is closely related to the acid-base balance in the body. Under normal circumstances, the pH value of the human body environment should be maintained between 7.35-7.45. However, poor eating habits and lifestyles can lead to an acid-base imbalance in the body, forming the so-called "acidic constitution." An acidic constitution can affect the excretion of uric acid, causing uric acid to accumulate in the body, thus causing high uric acid.

Effects of alkaline food on patients with hyperuricemia

Alkaline foods refer to foods that contain more mineral elements such as potassium, sodium, calcium, magnesium, and iron. After digestion, their metabolites are alkaline, such as egg white, celery, carrots, cucumbers, and fruits. These foods help neutralize acidic metabolites in the body and reduce uric acid concentration. Therefore, for patients with high uric acid, adjusting the dietary structure and increasing the intake of alkaline foods can help balance the acid-base balance in the body and reduce uric acid levels.

Although alkaline foods are beneficial for patients with high uric acid, the more the better. When consuming alkaline foods, you should consume them in moderation to avoid excessive intake leading to other health problems. Therefore, appropriate intake of alkaline foods is beneficial for patients with high uric acid.

How to treat patients with high uric acid

1. Reasonable food combination : In daily diet, patients with high uric acid should reasonably combine acidic and alkaline foods. Generally speaking, the intake of acidic foods should be controlled and the intake of alkaline foods should be appropriately increased. At the same time, attention should be paid to the diversity and balance of diet, and partial or picky eating should be avoided.

2. Proper exercise : Proper exercise can speed up the body's metabolism and blood circulation, which is beneficial to maintaining the body's acid-base balance. Aerobic exercise is recommended, such as walking, jogging, swimming, etc.

3. Maintain good living habits : Good living habits are essential for maintaining the acid-base balance in the body. It is recommended to maintain a good work and rest schedule, get enough sleep, and reduce stress to promote good health and prevent diseases.
