Is ectopic pregnancy surgery dangerous?

Is ectopic pregnancy surgery dangerous?

As we all know, under normal circumstances, after a woman becomes pregnant, the sperm and egg combine to develop into a fetus in the uterus. However, due to certain factors, the fetus grows and develops outside the uterus. Ectopic pregnancy is very dangerous and requires surgery. So, is the risk of ectopic pregnancy surgery high? Let’s find out.

All surgical treatments have certain risk factors. Treatments for ectopic pregnancy include: laparoscopy, drug therapy, and laparotomy.

Take tubal pregnancy as an example:

1. Conservative treatment with drugs

If the ectopic pregnancy can be diagnosed in the early stage, that is, before the fallopian tubes on both sides rupture, and there is no desire to conceive, drug treatment is the best choice, which causes less harm to the patient and the body is easy to recover. However, it cannot be used for those who want to get pregnant, because the killed test tube embryos are polarized at the origin, which often leads to blockage of the fallopian tube.

2. Bilateral fallopian tube fenestration and ventilation suture

For ectopic pregnancy in which the bilateral fallopian tubes are not ruptured or the bilateral fallopian tube ruptures are not large, the bilateral fallopian tubes are cut open through laparoscopy to place the test tube embryo, and then sutures are sutured to maintain the function of the bilateral fallopian tubes. This is one of the current treatment methods for ectopic pregnancy.

3. Bilateral fallopian tube removal

For patients with severe bilateral fallopian tube rupture that is difficult to repair and accompanied by hemorrhagic shock, only laparoscopic surgery or open surgery to remove the bilateral fallopian tubes of the affected limbs can be performed, and intravenous injection may be required.

4. Progesterone abortion during pregnancy

Progesterone abortion is a new procedure that uses mechanical drugs to destroy progesterone, causing the body's corpus luteum to drop sharply, leading to the natural death of the test tube embryo.

The scope of application is: unruptured ectopic pregnancy, difficult to find the location of pregnancy, or the location of pregnancy is not conducive to surgical removal (cornual pregnancy and cervical pregnancy).

What are the effects of ectopic pregnancy

1. Once an ectopic pregnancy is diagnosed, the pregnancy must be terminated

Ectopic pregnancy can cause acute internal bleeding, which can cause hemorrhagic shock or even death if not treated promptly. When an ectopic pregnancy occurs, the structural characteristics of the fallopian tubes themselves limit the development of the fertilized egg and prevent it from growing to full term. Therefore, once an ectopic pregnancy is diagnosed, the patient needs to take certain effective measures to terminate the pregnancy.

2. Does surgical treatment of ectopic pregnancy affect women's reproductive function?

Before performing surgery for ectopic pregnancy, the doctor will assess the patient's specific condition. For those who wish to become pregnant, the doctor will try to preserve both fallopian tubes and avoid causing serious damage to the urinary system during the operation. After recovery from ectopic pregnancy, the fertility of patients is generally not affected (except for those whose bilateral fallopian tubes or uterus have been removed). If a patient has had an ectopic pregnancy and one of the fallopian tubes has been removed, an ultrasound examination should be performed during the early pregnancy after the next pregnancy to rule out another ectopic pregnancy, which will facilitate proper treatment to preserve the bilateral fallopian tubes.
