The term "crispy-skinned college students" has become popular. Experts give tips on autumn skin care

Eating noodles so delicious that your heart rate soars, stretching and twisting your neck, frying sausages and getting second-degree burns, watching short videos and trying to hold back laughter and causing nosebleeds... Recently, the term "crispy college students" has become popular on the Internet, and many college students have taken the initiative to identify themselves with them. Has the physical fitness of college students really deteriorated? Studies have shown that the physical fitness and health of college students are indeed declining year by year.

"From the analysis of the outpatient clinic population, the number of college students coming for treatment due to skin problems has indeed been on the rise in recent years. For example, among the patients who came for treatment in the past two months, college students basically accounted for 30%. Among them, acne and allergies were the most common problems." said Du Changming, director of the Department of Dermatology at Nanjing Hospital of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine.

"Many college students with skin problems have two common characteristics: one is that they often stay up late, and the other is that they often order takeout." Du Changming said that staying up late often affects the blood circulation on the skin surface and the metabolism of skin cells, which can easily cause premature skin aging. Staying up late for a long time will cause the skin to secrete too much oil to keep the skin hydrated, and the oil will clog the pores, causing the hair follicles to be hypoxic, which will lead to acne. In addition, staying up late for a long time and lack of sleep will weaken the immune system, making some people with sensitive skin more prone to allergic symptoms.

From the perspective of traditional Chinese medicine, the treatment of acne requires syndrome differentiation and treatment. One of the syndromes is gastrointestinal dampness and heat, which is mainly caused by patients eating too much spicy and greasy food, causing dampness and heat to accumulate in the intestines and cannot be eliminated in time, inducing acne. Many college students not only like to order takeout, but also like the spicy, stimulating and greasy taste, which lays a health risk for the occurrence of acne.

So, how should college students take care of their skin scientifically in autumn? Du Changming said that first, try not to stay up late, or at least reduce the number and duration of staying up late. The "China Sleep Research Report 2023" shows that staying up late has become the norm for contemporary college students. 57.96% of college students often stay up late, 38.97% of college students occasionally stay up late, and only 3.07% do not stay up late. In addition to affecting the skin, staying up late for a long time can also lead to decreased immunity, disordered biological clock, poor blood circulation, dysfunction of internal organs, and so on.

Secondly, you should eat healthy, eat less spicy food, and drink water in time. In addition to drinking water when you feel thirsty, you can also drink water in the morning, half an hour before meals, after a nap, and at three or four o'clock in the afternoon. In autumn, the temperature drops and the temperature difference between morning and evening is large. It is best to drink warm water or warm drinks. You can also choose Chinese herbal tea under the guidance of a Chinese medicine practitioner to regulate your body.

Third, pay attention to protecting your heart and lungs. Traditional Chinese medicine believes that "lungs govern the skin and fur" and "heart governs blood vessels, and its beauty is on the face". In autumn, to make the skin bright and moisturized, you need to protect the heart and lungs. You can eat some foods that can nourish the body fluids, moisten dryness, nourish the lungs, and nourish the blood and heart, such as autumn pears, lilies, yam, longan, jujube, etc. In autumn and winter, people with weak heart and lungs can choose to choose paste prescriptions for conditioning under the guidance of traditional Chinese medicine practitioners.
