Attention, Japanese encephalitis has entered its epidemic season! Doing these two things well is crucial

Summer and autumn seasons

The silent mosquito army

It is extremely fierce and a bite will give you a big "red envelope"
However, a mosquito bite is not just itchy, it may also cause a serious disease, Japanese encephalitis. It is currently the epidemic season for Japanese encephalitis. Children are particularly susceptible to it. Parents must pay attention to Japanese encephalitis.

The full name of Japanese encephalitis is epidemic encephalitis B, also known as Japanese encephalitis. It is an acute infectious disease caused by the Japanese encephalitis virus transmitted through mosquito bites.

Japanese encephalitis is often prevalent in summer and autumn, with 80%-90% of cases concentrated in July, August and September, which is mainly related to factors such as mosquito breeding, temperature and rainfall.

Although the Japanese encephalitis virus looks ordinary, it is actually extremely vicious and mainly attacks the human central nervous system.

Insidious onset

The general population is susceptible to Japanese encephalitis virus.

Due to the hidden nature of the disease, most people do not develop symptoms or have mild symptoms after infection; a few people experience symptoms such as mental depression, lack of appetite, and drowsiness.

Japanese encephalitis may have secretly targeted you without you noticing. Once infected, the disease will develop rapidly and quickly, making it difficult to guard against!

Symptoms

Early symptoms include fever, mental depression, drowsiness, lack of appetite, headache, etc. Some people may get better.

The condition will worsen in some people, leading to high fever, impaired consciousness, convulsions and other symptoms.

In severe cases, respiratory failure may occur, leading to aphasia, limb paralysis, impaired consciousness, mental disorder, dementia, and even death.

Sources of infection and routes of transmission

Japanese encephalitis is a disease transmitted by mosquitoes, with Culex tritaeniorhynchus as the main vector. It cannot be transmitted directly from person to person .

Pigs are the main source of infection of Japanese encephalitis. After pigs are infected with the Japanese encephalitis virus, the virus titer in their bodies reaches a certain level. When mosquitoes bite pigs in the toxemia stage, the virus will incubate in the mosquito's body for a latent period and then bite humans, humans may be infected.

Therefore, pigs are also called intermediate hosts or spreading hosts. Japanese encephalitis virus usually circulates between mosquitoes-pigs-mosquitoes .

To prevent Japanese encephalitis, it is crucial to do these two things

01 Vaccination against Japanese encephalitis

This is the most economical and effective measure to prevent Japanese encephalitis. At present, the types of Japanese encephalitis vaccines in my country mainly include inactivated vaccines and live attenuated vaccines.

  • Vaccination of live attenuated Japanese encephalitis vaccine (2 doses): 1 dose each at 8 months and 2 years of age.
  • Vaccination of inactivated Japanese encephalitis vaccine (4 doses): 2 doses at 8 months of age, with an interval of 7 to 10 days between the 1st and 2nd doses, and 1 dose each at 2 and 6 years of age.

Among them, the inactivated Japanese encephalitis vaccine is a non-immunisation program vaccine and needs to be administered voluntarily and at one's own expense .

Parents, please take note

Check your child's vaccination records to see if he or she has received the Japanese encephalitis vaccine.

If your child has reached the vaccination age but has not been vaccinated, take him/her to the vaccination clinic immediately.

02 Anti-mosquito and mosquito control

Isolation : Wear light-colored long-sleeved clothes and long pants when going out, covering as much of your body as possible to prevent mosquito bites.

Repellent : Apply mosquito repellent on exposed skin and clothing.

Avoid : Avoid staying in dark outdoor places such as shade of trees , grass , pavilions , etc. during the hours when mosquitoes are most active ( 7-9 a.m. and 4-6 p.m. ).

Installation : Install screen doors and windows and use mosquito nets at home**.

Clear : Drain stagnant water that may breed mosquitoes , including stagnant water in front and behind houses, gardens/balconies/rooftops, pools/water-grown plants, water dispenser trays/flower pot bases, bamboo tubes/tree holes/tires, construction sites and green belts.

Change : Avoid growing aquatic plants indoors. If you need to grow them, it is recommended to grow them in sand and stones . If there is a fish tank indoors, put mosquito fish in the tank from time to time.

Elimination : Use mosquito coils , electric mosquito swatters , insecticide sprays , etc. to repel mosquitoes in a timely manner.

Notice

If clinical symptoms occur and you have stayed near a pigpen or pig farm and been bitten by mosquitoes , whether you are an adult or a child, you must inform your doctor of your risk of disease as soon as possible, conduct differential diagnosis and treatment as soon as possible!
