Social media usage is on the rise among digitally connected consumers. The Buntin Group , Survey Sampling International , Chinet, conducted a May 2013 survey of American Internet users who use at least two platforms to connect with others and found that email, text messaging and social media usage among these people has reached 23 hours per week. Email and Facebook are the most popular tools people use to communicate with others, followed by SMS and text. In terms of usage time, email topped the list at 7.8 hours, followed by Facebook at 6.8 hours, YouTube at 5 hours, Google+ at 4.3 hours, and Twitter at 4.2 hours. Similarly, users log in to social media very frequently. While the amount of time spent digitally connected is growing, another trend is also surging: 54% of respondents said they took time away from technology last year to have more personal time, and 62% said they plan to use less technology in the coming year to increase face-to-face interactions. Data from GFK in April last year showed that Americans spent an average of 37 minutes a day on social media, up from 30 minutes in 2011. via: eMarketer |
