The girl's sweat is actually blue. What causes chromhidrosis?

Science Fiction Network, March 14 (Qin Yingying) Recently, a girl in Mianyang, Sichuan, found her clothes were stained blue when she was about to wash them after taking a shower. She thought it was because the clothes had faded, but after a checkup, she found out that she had chromhidrosis. It is understood that there is currently no effective treatment for this disease.

Normal sweat is colorless. When sweat is colored due to various reasons, it is called chromhidrosis. Chromhidrosis is a rare disease. The most common color of sweat is yellow, and other colors include blue, green, brown, purple and black, often accompanied by underarm odor.

It is understood that about 10% of the world's population secretes yellow sweat from their apocrine glands, and the specific reason is not clear. It is currently believed to be a dysfunction of the apocrine glands. The secretion of colored sweat is a response to adrenaline stimulation, which causes the apocrine myoepithelial cells to contract and secrete a large amount of lipofuscin. It may also be caused by pigment-producing bacteria.

There are usually two types of eccrine chromohidrosis. One is caused by dyes, metals or pigments on the surface of the skin that color normal sweat, which is a false color sweat. For example, blue-green sweat is seen in workers who work with copper. True eccrine chromohidrosis is mainly caused by drugs or diseases. For example, injection of mephenazine blue makes sweat blue, oral clofazimine makes sweat brown-red, patients with ocher disease have brown-brown sweat, and patients with liver failure or obvious high bilirubin have bile excreted through sweat, which is brown or dark green.

Chromhidrosis can occur at any age and can occur continuously or intermittently. There is currently no specific treatment for chromhidrosis, but mild cases usually do not require treatment, and severe cases can be treated with hyperhidrosis. For pseudochromhidrosis, avoid contact with coloring substances. If it is caused by drugs, stop taking the drugs and it will disappear naturally. If it is caused by a disease, the primary disease should be treated. And you should pay attention to cleanliness and hygiene at ordinary times, such as washing the affected area frequently, changing clothes frequently, and keeping the skin dry.
