A 60-year-old man had a mole on his eyelid, but he didn't take it seriously at first. It wasn't until the mole grew bigger and broke and bled that he went to the hospital for treatment. After examination, it was diagnosed as basal cell carcinoma of the eyelid. Fortunately, the cancer cells had not metastasized and spread, and the diseased tissue was removed and the eyelid was repaired through surgery. 63-year-old Zhang Daddy (pseudonym) lives in Macheng. This summer, he worked in the farm under the scorching sun for several days in a row, and suddenly a mung bean-sized black mole grew on the lower eyelid of his left eye. At first, he thought it was just an ordinary mole and didn't pay much attention to it, but the black mole grew rapidly and gradually broke and bled with black scabs. In less than half a year, it grew to a diameter of one centimeter. Under the repeated persuasion of his son, Zhang Daddy came to the Aier Eye Hospital affiliated to Wuhan University for treatment. After examination by Zhao Min, deputy chief physician of the eyelid and orbital disease/ocular plastic surgery department, it was highly suspected to be basal cell carcinoma, and the patient was advised to undergo surgery as soon as possible. After obtaining the consent of the family, Lu Xiulan, deputy chief physician of the eyelid and orbital disease/eye plastic surgery department, performed surgery on Mr. Zhang, completely removing the mole. After the intraoperative frozen section confirmed that the cutting margin was negative, the defective eyelid was repaired. After three hours of meticulous surgery, the lesion in Mr. Zhang's eye was completely removed, and his eyelid returned to normal appearance after the surgery. "Basal cell carcinoma is more common in the elderly, and is prone to occur on the head, face, neck and back of the hands. The most common triggering factors are ultraviolet radiation, damage from radiation or thermal radiation, and contact with chemical carcinogens." Director Zhao Min introduced that the early symptoms of basal cell carcinoma are light yellow or pink nodules slightly higher than the skin surface, with a relatively smooth surface, usually without pain or tenderness. As the disease progresses, it will turn into light yellow-brown or light gray, waxy nodules, and may even erode, scab or bleed, and then develop into ulcers and spread to the surrounding skin. If the cancer cells do not spread and metastasize, the cure rate is very high through radical surgery to expand the resection. Director Lu Xiulan reminds: If you have a mole on your eyelid or face, you need to be alert and observe closely. If the color and size of the mole change, you should go to the hospital as soon as possible. The hospital has opened a specialized clinic for eye tumors, which can provide patients with more accurate treatment. Patients do not need to be afraid of cancer. Generally speaking, even if the eyelid tumor is malignant, as long as it is discovered, diagnosed and treated early, it is very likely to be cured. (Liu Huan Shuxiang) |
