How to deal with episiotomy wound swelling

How to deal with episiotomy wound swelling

Many women need an episiotomy during vaginal childbirth. A big reason is that today's pregnant women are well-nourished and their fetuses are relatively large. Pregnant women need a certain amount of time to recover after the episiotomy wound is sutured. Everyone's body resistance is different, and the recovery period of wound surgery is also different. Some women may even experience infection and pus during the recovery process. So how do you deal with blistering on episiotomy wounds?

How to deal with episiotomy wound swelling

Once the episiotomy wound is broken, it is best to observe the wound first. If there is blistering or suppuration, the wound must be cleaned with saline as soon as possible. At the same time, it should be disinfected with iodine disinfectant or hydrogen peroxide, and then applied with detoxifying ointment to completely remove the pus in the wound.

Then, if the patient's episiotomy wound has a neat edge after it breaks, it needs to be cleaned and then sutured again. If the wound is damaged, sutures are generally not required. Antibiotics can be taken to fight infection and speed up the healing of the wound. If the wound heals well, it is unlikely to open again.

If the wound has obvious suture rejection, the unabsorbable sutures must be properly handled and disinfected with iodine tincture or hydrogen peroxide, and then the wound should be applied with detoxifying ointment for about 5 days to completely remove the unabsorbable sutures and thus remove foreign matter in the wound.

Use iodine disinfectant every day, once in the morning, noon and evening, until the wound is completely healed. Also, you need to pay attention to the wound now. It takes some time for the wound to heal, and it is impossible to heal it all at once. Develop good living habits and avoid eating spicy food or irritating ingredients that can easily cause inflammation.

Causes of episiotomy wound swelling

1. Incomplete cleaning during the suturing process can easily lead to infection of the suture layer inside the episiotomy wound, and even suppuration and pustules, which can cause wound dehiscence.

2. Suture rejection. The physical constitution of new mothers cannot absorb sutures. Even if the surface sutures are removed, the rejection of the inner sutures can easily cause episiotomy wound dehiscence. Of course, the doctor's suture technique and equipment infection during the suture process can also easily cause episiotomy wound dehiscence.

How to deal with blistering on episiotomy wound? If a bulge appears on the episiotomy wound during the healing process after giving birth, this is also a symptom of infection. You need to pay attention to many aspects of medical care. It is recommended to wash your underwear frequently, wash your hands when applying medicine to private parts, and do not have sex when the wound has just healed. In order to prevent secondary tearing, pay attention to disinfection and sterilization of the wound.
