Can coffee prevent COVID-19? Why do people fart more when they are positive? 10 COVID-19 questions and answers you care about

As more and more friends have tested positive, the content related to "new coronavirus infection" has become the most concerned topic recently, and we also receive many questions from friends every day.

Today, "West China Doctors" has sorted out the 10 most popular questions that you care about most and explained them all at once!

1

Can coffee prevent COVID-19?

Previously, researchers at Northwestern University in the United States collected data from nearly 40,000 participants and found that:

Compared with infrequent coffee drinking (<1 cup/day), habitual drinking of ≥1 cup of coffee per day was associated with an approximately 10% lower risk of COVID-19 infection. The study was published in Nutrients.

Recently, Professor Nikolai Kuhnert from Jacobs University of Bremen and his team have conducted in-depth research on the specific mechanism of "coffee preventing new coronavirus infection" - chlorogenic acid (5-caffeoylquinic acid) in coffee can effectively inhibit the interaction between the spike protein (S protein) of the new coronavirus and the ACE-2 receptor on human cells, thereby preventing new coronavirus infection.

However, theoretically, drinking coffee to prevent COVID-19 infection is reasonable, but more clinical research is needed to confirm it .

2

The higher the fever, the more serious the illness?

The degree of fever is not absolutely related to the severity of the disease. A low body temperature does not necessarily mean that the condition is mild, and a high temperature does not necessarily mean that the condition is severe.

The purpose of taking antipyretics is mainly to increase comfort and to safely and comfortably get through the fever period, rather than simply pursuing the goal of lowering body temperature to normal values.

3

Why is the antigen test still negative even though I have a fever?

There may be three main reasons:

Wrong detection time: After the virus enters the human body, it first appears in the form of nucleic acid, and antigens will appear after a few days, but symptoms may begin to appear as soon as the nucleic acid invades. In the early and late stages of infection, the antigen concentration is low, and the test kit cannot accurately detect the presence of the virus. The antigen test result may be negative, but it does not mean that the infection has not occurred or has completely ended.

Improper operation: During the antigen test, there may be improper operation, such as insufficient sampling depth, insufficient rotation of the swab in the nasal cavity, contamination of the nasal swab, etc., resulting in false negative results.

The color is too light to be seen clearly: During antigen testing, there must be a sufficient amount of virus to produce two brightly colored bars. In the early and late stages of infection, if the amount of virus is not large enough, the red bar may be too light, and the result may be seen as a negative result.

4

Does the red line in the antigen result represent the amount of virus?

The depth of color does not represent the amount of viral load. Regardless of the depth of the red line in the T zone, it is a positive result.

Antigen testing is only a qualitative test . It cannot detect COVID-19 infection immediately after testing. It has a certain false negative rate and false positive rate.

It is recommended to get tested 24 or 48 hours after the onset of symptoms to more clearly determine whether you are infected with the new coronavirus.

Even after the symptoms disappear, you should wait 1 to 2 days before testing again. Only after two negative test results can it be confirmed that the test has turned negative.

5

Why do you fart more after becoming “yang”?

Excessive flatulence after an infection is usually caused by:

▶ Viral infection affects the gastrointestinal tract;

▶ Viral infection can affect digestion and absorption functions, and can also lead to more frequent flatulence;

▶ Although Omicron is relatively weak in pathogenicity, it can cause a systemic immune response and affect the intestinal function of some patients.

However, excessive gas discharge is not a bad thing , otherwise it is easy to cause discomfort such as abdominal bloating.

6

What should I do if my body hurts after having an orgasm?

To relieve sore throat , you can try gargling with hypertonic saline, taking throat lozenges, and drinking more water;

To relieve back pain, you can try external plasters, ibuprofen/acetaminophen. If there is no improvement, further examination can be done to determine whether there is a lumbar problem.

To relieve headaches , you can try taking antipyretic and analgesic drugs, keep warm, eat a light diet, and avoid irritating foods such as tea/coffee;

To relieve stomach pain, you can try using montmorillonite powder, berberine, and probiotics, replenish water and electrolytes in time, and pay attention to the reasonable combination of vitamins, folic acid, and trace elements.

*Please follow the doctor's instructions for the specific use of the above medications!!!

7

What should I do if I keep coughing after becoming positive?

A cough caused by COVID-19 may be more severe and lasting than a cough caused by a cold or flu.

For acute cough , cough suppressants alone cannot be used. Antihistamines and decongestants must be used in combination. If fever occurs, antipyretic analgesics must also be used.

For subacute and chronic stages of cough , antitussive drugs such as Aspergillus, Efentanil, and Dextromethorphan can be considered;

Coughing after COVID-19 infection can generally be relieved naturally. If there is no improvement after more than 3 weeks, you can go to a specialist clinic for consultation.

8

Can you still have sex after becoming impotent?

It’s already this late, let’s put the bed exercises on hold.

Not to mention the problem of easy transmission to your significant other, strenuous exercise can easily increase the burden on your myocardium , which could lead to life-threatening consequences.

9

Will reinfection be a secondary infection?

"Fuyang" means that the symptoms of the infected person have basically disappeared, and the nucleic acid test and antigen test are negative, but the test is positive again. It is generally believed that what is detected at this time are some fragments of the virus, not the complete virus , with no symptoms and infectiousness, and no impact on normal life.

"Secondary infection" means that the person has completely recovered from the COVID-19 infection, but has been infected with the virus for the second time. Secondary infection usually has symptoms, and the CT value of nucleic acid is relatively low, the viral load is high, and it is contagious .

The probability of "re-positivity" and "secondary infection" in people with normal immune function is very low.

Attention should be paid to people with low immune function, such as the elderly and infants under three years old, people with immunodeficiency, such as AIDS patients and users of immunosuppressants, medical staff, public transportation operation and maintenance personnel, and other people in high-risk positions. As time goes on, the risk of "secondary infection" is relatively high.

10

Is it easy to get infected within two weeks after “Yang Kang”?

The specific antibodies we often talk about take two weeks to reach a relatively high level.

But in fact, the moment the virus enters the human body, the immune system has already started working. The protective antibodies produced subsequently will reach a peak in two to three weeks and last for a longer time, but it does not mean that the human body has no protection within these two weeks.

If the virus enters the body again at this time, it can be cleared away quickly, and it is relatively less likely to be infected .

Generally speaking, the longer the time after infection, the lower the antibody level in the body, and the greater the risk of infection.
