Canalys: Smartphone shipments in Latin America reached 33.5 million units in Q2 2024, up 20% year-on-year

A report by market analysis firm Canalys shows that in the second quarter of 2024, the smartphone market in Latin America achieved double-digit growth for four consecutive quarters, with shipments reaching 33.5 million units, a year-on-year increase of 20%.

Samsung's shipments increased by 9% year-on-year to 10.2 million units, driven by its A series, and ranked first on the list with a 30% market share. Xiaomi ranked second in Latin America for the first time, with a market share of 19%, a year-on-year increase of 35%, and shipments of 6.2 million units, setting a record high in the region.

Motorola ranked third on the list with 5.7 million units shipped, accounting for 17% of the market share, but its shipments fell 1% year-on-year.

Transsion, which is not well-known in China, ranked fourth on the list with a market share of 9% and a year-on-year growth of 52%, with shipments reaching 3.2 million units.

In addition, Honor also performed well in the region this quarter, with a year-on-year increase of 47%, shipments reaching 1.7 million units, and a market share of 5%, ranking fifth on the list.

Canalys senior analyst Miguel Pérez said: Major manufacturers use cost-effective product positioning and aggressive pricing strategies to stimulate consumers to replace their devices as soon as possible.

These factors also determine the current competitive situation among manufacturers, with most market participants focusing on launching low-priced and attractive product configurations.

This is well illustrated by the year-over-year drop in average selling prices (ASPs) to their lowest point since the second quarter of 2021.
