Counterpoint: 77% of Indian smart device users consider chipsets important

As the Indian smartphone market matures, consumers are becoming more aware of the smart devices they own. They make informed decisions when purchasing smartphones, which are key devices for their daily activities. Recognizing the importance of chipsets as a key differentiator for smart devices, Counterpoint conducted a consumer survey in India. The focus was to understand the awareness and importance of chipsets among Indians. India is the second largest smartphone market in the world and one of the fastest growing markets for all kinds of smart devices.

The survey revealed that 77% of smart device users in the country believe that chipset features are very important in influencing their device experience. The survey also revealed the importance of chipsets in different smart devices such as smartphones, earphones/TWS, smart TVs and laptops.

The survey found that many of the advanced features in current smart devices are enabled and enhanced by the development of the underlying chipsets. These chipsets shape the consumer experience and help OEMs differentiate their products as they transition to next-generation 5G networks. According to respondents, performance (76%), graphics and gaming capabilities (66%), and 5G connectivity (62%) are the top three features that rely on chipset capabilities.

In terms of brands, 61% of respondents are aware of MediaTek chipsets in smart devices in India, thanks to the company's leadership in smartphones as well as smart TVs and smart speakers. According to Counterpoint's latest global smartphone AP shipments, MediaTek is the world's largest smartphone chipset brand in the third quarter of 2023 with a market share of 31%.
