Can the flowering period of Cymbidium be controlled? How to grow Cymbidium to make it germinate quickly?

Cymbidium orchids are relatively easy to grow among Chinese orchids. They are green all year round, and their petals are larger than other varieties. The colors are bright, so they look beautiful when they bloom. There are two stages for Cymbidium orchids to differentiate flower buds: late autumn and early winter, and late winter and early spring. So can the flowering time of Cymbidium orchids be controlled?

Can the flowering period of Cymbidium be controlled?

The flowering period of Cymbidium can be advanced. If you want Cymbidium to bloom well, you must first have gentle light. When there is sufficient sunlight, the leaves of Cymbidium will fully carry out photosynthesis, allowing the flowering time to be appropriately advanced.

Cymbidium needs low-temperature vernalization to bloom. Cymbidium that is fully vernalized will have upright flower stems and bright colors. The time for low-temperature vernalization is at least one month. During the low-temperature vernalization period, if there is a temperature difference between day and night, the effect will be better.

If you want to advance the flowering period of Cymbidium, higher air humidity is necessary, and the temperature for Cymbidium to bloom must be met. When Cymbidium is vernalized, the temperature rises to above 15 degrees, and the flower buds will begin to lengthen and prepare to bloom.

How to grow cymbidium orchids and make them germinate quickly

1. Watering. Huilan has fleshy roots and is relatively drought-resistant. Do not water it too frequently, otherwise it will easily cause root rot. It is more drought-resistant than Chunlan. In summer, you can spray water appropriately to keep it moist. In summer, shade 50%. The leaves will not be sun-spotted and will be more beautiful.

2. Use soil, preferably fertile leaf mold, or other medium, and be sure to add some large particles. It should be breathable and water-permeable, and do not plant too deep when planting.

3. Use a pot. Some Cymbidiums grow very tall, so it is better to choose a larger pot.

4. If you want Huilan to sprout new buds, there is a little trick, which is to control the water in March, let the soil in the pot dry completely, and then water it to encourage new buds to emerge.

How to grow Cymbidium orchids

The root system of Cymbidium orchid is thick, so the flower pot should be larger than that of Chunlan. Since Cymbidium orchid has no obvious rhizome to store nutrients, it can only rely on roots to absorb nutrients from the soil, and the leaves are wide and there are many flowers. Therefore, the fertilizer consumption is relatively much larger. When preparing planting materials for Cymbidium orchid, the first priority should be the long-lasting fertilizer effect, and then looseness, ventilation, moisture retention and drainage.

In the planting material prepared for Cymbidium, the proportion of humus soil (collected from Orchid Mountain) is 40%, which ensures that Cymbidium has sufficient nutrient supply during its growth process.

Wild Cymbidium orchids mostly grow above the mountainside, in relatively high altitude areas, and prefer ventilated and humid environments. Therefore, when we grow Cymbidium orchids at home, the environment must be ventilated. Poor ventilation can easily cause various diseases.

Cymbidium orchids start to produce new seedlings after flowering, but the rate of seedling production is not as high as that of spring orchids. Generally, it is good for each cymbidium orchid (3--5 seedlings) to produce one new strong seedling a year, while spring orchids managed in the same way can produce 3--5 new seedlings from 3 strong grasses. Before June, cymbidium orchids can be fertilized with appropriate nitrogen content to promote the rapid growth of cymbidium orchids. If fertilizing after July, do not add nitrogen fertilizer, and mainly use phosphorus and potassium fertilizers to promote the differentiation and growth of flower buds.

Don't rush to move cymbidium orchids with flower buds indoors. Cymbidium orchids are very cold-resistant. If the pot soil is not frozen, minus 5-8 degrees Celsius is no problem. However, if there is continuous freezing weather, cymbidium orchids also need to be protected from the cold and frost. The most feared thing for orchids is that the roots and pot soil will freeze together.

Low temperature vernalization is a necessary condition for Cymbidium to bloom well. The vernalization temperature is between 0-10 degrees Celsius, and the vernalization period takes about two months. Under normal circumstances, Cymbidium blooms in March, but it also varies due to different ambient temperatures.
