In August 2023, South Korean display manufacturers' exports reached US$2.1 billion, a year-on-year increase of 1.8%.

The production orders for the iPhone 15 series, which number between 80 million and 90 million units this year, mean that there is still considerable demand for various components such as chips, displays, and cameras, and related suppliers will also benefit from it.

According to foreign media reports, South Korean display manufacturers may have benefited from the iPhone 15 series. After 15 consecutive months of year-on-year decline, exports resumed growth in August, reaching US$2.1 billion, a year-on-year increase of 1.8%. Foreign media also mentioned in the report that South Korea's display exports ended the year-on-year decline in August and achieved growth, thanks to the increase in demand for smartphone OLED displays.

South Korea has two major display manufacturers, Samsung Display and LG Display, which are also suppliers of OLED displays for Apple iPhone. The displays for the iPhone 15 series are currently supplied by these two companies.

In previous reports, foreign media also mentioned that the iPhone 15 series began mass production in August, which means that the OLED displays produced by Samsung Display and LG Display will be shipped in large quantities in August. It is not surprising that South Korea’s display exports increased year-on-year in August.

Since Apple's new iPhones launched in the fall usually have considerable demand after they are launched on the market, production will remain high in the early stages of the market, and high demand for various components such as display screens will also remain for some time. The export volume of South Korea's display screens is expected to continue to grow year-on-year in the future.
