TechInsights: Apple's global iPhone shipments in Q2 2023 will be 43.1 million units, a year-on-year decrease of 9.3%

TechInsights data shows that Apple's global iPhone shipments fell 9.3% year-on-year to 43.1 million units in the second quarter of 2023, with a market share of 16.0%. Apple did not launch the iPhone SE in 2023, which is one of the reasons for the decline in Apple's shipments in that quarter.

Moreover, in previously strong iPhone sales regions such as North America, Western Europe and Japan, there has been no significant increase in demand for users to replace or purchase new iPhones, and Apple's performance has also been lukewarm.

However, driven by increased sales of the iPhone 14 series Pro models, Apple's average selling price (ASP) hit a record high in the second quarter. At the same time, the Counterpoint report pointed out that Apple continued to lead global smartphone revenue and operating profit in the second quarter, with its market share reaching a record 45% and 85%, respectively.

In addition, China surpassed the United States for the first time in the second quarter to become the largest single market for iPhone shipments. After Apple increased its manufacturing scale in India, iPhone shipments in India in the second quarter also increased by more than 50% year-on-year.

India is currently an important strategic market for Apple in terms of sales and manufacturing. In the second quarter, India has become Apple's fifth largest market.

It is worth mentioning that TechInsights expects the average selling price of the iPhone to increase further in Q3 and Q4 of 2023. This is because the iPhone 15 Pro will adopt LIPO technology with narrow bezels and use titanium alloy materials.
