Counterpoint: Smartphone ODM/IDH shipments to drop 5% in 2022

According to the latest report from Counterpoint, smartphone shipments by original design manufacturers/independent design houses (ODM/IDH) fell 5% year-on-year in 2022.

In 2022, Longcheer, Huaqin and Wingtech Technology continued to dominate the competitive landscape of the global smartphone ODM/IDH industry. These three companies, also known as the "Big Three", accounted for 76% of the global ODM/IDH smartphone market in 2022, compared with 70% in 2021.

Leading ODM manufacturers are actively expanding their ODM and EMS services to other smart device categories, with Huaqin ranking first in shipments in the broader smart device category. In order to enrich their portfolios, ODMs are actively exploring industries such as components, semiconductors, automobiles, and XR products. They are working to put more helmsmen in place to ensure that their companies sail more stably in the face of global headwinds.

China's manufacturing sector has been recovering after the country lifted COVID-19 restrictions, and production capacity in the country is expected to return to normal by 2023. Meanwhile, manufacturing diversification in the global electronics industry continues to grow.
