Counterpoint: Global smartphone market declines 14% in Q1 2023, Xiaomi falls 22%

According to the latest report released by market research firm Counterpoint Research, the global smartphone market shipments in the first quarter of 2023 were 280.2 million units, a year-on-year decrease of 14% and a month-on-month decrease of 7%.

Samsung surpassed Apple to become the best-selling smartphone manufacturer this quarter thanks to its Galaxy A series and the latest Galaxy S23 series.

Samsung shipped 60.6 million units this quarter, up 4% from the previous quarter and down 19% from the previous year. The launch of the Galaxy S23 series increased Samsung's average selling price to US$340.

However, the shipments of the five major mobile phone manufacturers, Samsung, Apple, Xiaomi, OPPO and vivo, all declined, but Apple's decline was the smallest, only 2% . The other four manufacturers all experienced double-digit declines, with Xiaomi's decline of 22%, the largest.
