Counterpoint: Xiaomi accounts for 35% of the total smartphone market in Spain in March 2021, surpassing Samsung to rank first

A new report from Counterpoint shows that Xiaomi has replaced the Korean giant Samsung and won the top spot in the Spanish smartphone market for the first time in March 2021. According to the report, Xiaomi accounts for 35% of the total smartphone market in Spain, followed by Samsung with a market share of 34%, second only to Xiaomi. Apple ranks third with a market share of 14%, and the remaining companies account for the remaining 18%.

In March 2020, Xiaomi's market share in Spain was 24%, and by March 2021, it had reached 35%, an astonishing increase. However, in the same period, Samsung also grew from 25% in March 2020 to 34% in March this year.

The Counterpoint report added that Xiaomi's sales grew 3% month-on-month, mainly due to the strong performance of its entry-level Redmi9A and Redmi K40 series smartphones. Xiaomi, similar to other Chinese smartphone brands, has been strategically expanding its business into overseas markets. Companies such as Xiaomi, vivo, and OPPO are working hard to fill the gap left by Huawei and Honor.

It is noteworthy that companies like Xiaomi, OPPO, and Vivo did not face problems due to the shortage of chips in the market compared to other smaller manufacturers. This helped them to push forward with their new devices in the market.

Xiaomi has been aggressively gaining market share and has become the world's third-largest smartphone brand after Samsung and Apple. Xiaomi currently has a 14% global market share, and its smartphone shipments grew 62% in the first quarter of this year, reaching 49 million units worldwide.
