F5 Networks: Half of Asia Pacific users believe security is very important to application experience

Consumers in Asia Pacific love the experience and convenience that apps provide, but a recent study found that the majority (53%) now consider security an important consideration when using apps.

Technology company F5 Networks and YouGov surveyed more than 3,700 consumers in the Asia Pacific region (Australia, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, the Philippines and Singapore) from March to July 2018. Nearly half of the respondents (46%) believe that a more secure experience will be the biggest factor in improving the experience in the next five years, and nearly three-fifths of the respondents will stop using the application if data security is compromised. Therefore, it is increasingly important for enterprises in the region to balance application security with functionality and convenience.

While the importance of security is a core message of the F5 survey, the research also reveals different attitudes within individual markets and between generations.

Consumers in more mature markets, such as Australia (63%) and Singapore (67%), place greater emphasis on security over convenience, while users in Indonesia, India and the Philippines are more likely to prioritize convenience.

Even more surprising is that millennials aged 18-34 are less likely to worry about security risks than older generations, even though tech-savvy millennials tend to be more aware of potential risks.

According to the survey results, less than half (44%) of Millennials prioritize security, compared to 53% of Generation X users aged 35-55 and 53% of users aged 55 and older.
